The father that abandoned me used to always draw for me whatever I asked him to, my deep hate has transformed into a desire to surpass him so much that his insignificant drawings are nothing but mere baby scribbles, drawing/ painting is everything to me, it's my job , it's my hobby and entertainment.

I used to create my own digimon at during lunch breaks at primary school.

What made me want to take it seriously?

The desire to create a world and characters I can lose myself in. Smug twink mage boy, Caring but stern old soldier, Team Mum ginger amazon on all a fantasy adventure.

My dream is for my psyche to fracture to the point that I start to believe that they and the world I create for them are reality.

Long way to go though. Still /beg/ but I've gotten to that point where my stuffs not good enough to leave but not bad enough for other /begs/ to easily point out what's wrong with it.

my family positively re-enforced my scribbles since i was a toddler. to their unfortunate demise, their encouragement turned me into an artist instead of a doctor.

to their credit they tried to ban me from drawing during my middle school years but that was when i was the most angsty, which is the prime era for artists.

after that, i realized i wasn't good at anything else other than drawing so i made it into my career.

I think it’s the sheer imagination that sprouted from within me from illustrations, games, manga, books, movies, and media in general. I can’t read a book without thinking what this character or world would look like and it makes me wanna draw. It get absolutely jealous seeing what other artist can come up with. I get the drive to beat them and make something cooler. Plus all I think about is drawing so I gotta do it regardless, I guess it’s just a calling.

Used to draw a lot as a kid
Used to scribble a lot in Highschool
Stopped when scribbling buddy changed to another school, around 8th or 9th grade
Had a few attempts to get into art "properly" bit failed because I tried to take shortcuts ("Learn to draw X in 20min" YouTube videos and shit like that) and generally had no idea what I'm doing.
Finally realized that art is a skill that can be learned by working hard and now the pandemic has given me the time to actually start practicing.
There's not much I can do and most of my work looks like trash, bit I'm having a good time so far.

I've drawn and written my entire life.

I decided I was a better writer than an artist and honed my talents there until now, but I still need to draw if I'm writing. I have to sketch characters, faces, locations, it bursts out from me like an alien when I'm in the groove.

Everything I want to do with my writing is visual - comics, cartoons, video games. My art is just not up to snuff. I love drawing for my own reference but hate drawing for public consumption.

So, I'm trying to improve. Worst case scenario I improve for my own reference skills and still hate drawing for public consumption and find a collab partner.

It's not that bad if you spent less than a year drawing. I draw similar buildings without references although I am drawing for years

It's not cheaper if you are from Western Europe or the US. Spending years learning some skill takes thousands of hours and average pay per hour in the West is really high, it makes more sense to work in McDonalds and pay 80$ a week for a full colored drawing from any good artist

I always had a knack for drawing since I could remember.

In first grade I was pretty gifted in drawing. While other kids drew scribbles, I drew art that looked on par with shin-chan.

Then I just did nothing, and my drawing skills never moved past that-of-you'd-expect of an 6th grader.

It was only until two years ago when I started redrawing, and this time seriously. I definintely improved, but it's still shit. Now I barely draw and just lurk the boards just to witness what you bitter and mean assholes have to crab about everything.
