how do I really FEEL the form? I don't mean understand the form. I mean FEEL the form as if I'm the ant.

You can feel it when you don't suck at drawing anymore.

>tfw learned how to feel the form over time but have no idea how or how to explain it to those that don't understand
I guess it's just something you learn one day
it's kind of like muscle memory, you have such a vast variety of bodies and poses memorized that drawing it just kind of comes to you
analyze a lot of art that you like and try to feel that form first, maybe you'll learn to feel the form in your own art

Google cross-contour drawing. Do that.
Plus drawing through the form and imagining how the line wraps around the side you can't see.
Also understanding how curves distort in perspective. Scott robertson covers it, maybe ,moderndayjames does too idk.

I'll add that you could try sculpting too. Anything that trains your brain to work in 3D space.

>watch vilppu
>have no idea what the fuck he means
>gestures look like shit, give up
>watch vilppu again months later
>suddenly can FEEL the forms
>can literally FEEL my pencil caressing the form as I draw
>drawings instantly not flat anymore
>made more progress in 1 month than an entire year

Quads of truth. I experienced the same thing when I started drawing, literally just focused on the outline of my subjects until one day it just clicked and I could FEEL the form. No other way to describe it. You just FEEL it.

How the fuck do you not feel the form?
Everything you draw is made out of shapes you've had in your hand before. Just don't look at your work as a bunch of lines I guess?

Some people are probably incapable of feeling the form in the same way some people are incapable of visualizing an apple

My take is that good forms are those that give the illusion of 3d in 2d, and feeling the form is more or less falling for your own illusion and seeing the drawing on canvas not as just a drawing, but a 3d object you could touch.

Play around with some modeling clay, that will help you understand 3D forms.
