A few different ways.
Sometimes crabbing can be as simple as being angry that someone is better than you or progressing faster than you, and then lashing out.
Another form of crabbing is intentionally giving people bad advice to try and stunt their growth. This one is kinda hard to do though, because no matter what advice you think is bad advice, someone else will unironically believe that it's good advice and that it's exactly the advice that should be given to /beg/s.

It's hard to criticize that drawing because it's a very timid type of thing, drawing a photo reference with thin lines and no coloring. it's decent IMO, but there's not much to say. you should try to get out of your comfort zone and push further. if you want to stay in the observation area, try coloring something or making a value study or a full body figure

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but I'm just having trouble wrapping my head around perspective and vanishing points. I understand how buildings fit into perspective, but I guess I get confused when it comes to organic forms that are made up of a bunch of objects, I know you can put the objects in boxs to help visualize it but;

does each object then have its own set of vanishing points?
like say an animal is made of multiple "boxes",
do each of those boxes have their own vanishing points? because I can't really wrap my head around how to draw intersecting objects where one is rotated naturally and keep it in perspective, I just keep drawing weird buildings or a complete mess(pic related)

maybe I'm just /beg/ and I learn this stuff later, I was just trying to experiment, I'm still getting used to thinking in 3d space (and drawing boxes obviously) so I don't even know how to word the question I want to ask, thanks if anyone understands what I'm trying to say

>> No.4553914

>>4553906
>does each object then have its own set of vanishing points?
If you have two boxes and one is rotated at a different angle, then yes, it would have its own set of vanishing points. When lines are perfectly parallel, they go to the same VP.

>> No.4553927

>>4553906
Each group of parallel lines has its own vanishing point. So when you draw something from reality like a landscape, you basically have infinite vanishing points. What you do is you pay attention to the VPs that seem most important and ignore the rest. Your perspective won't be perfect but people won't notice either

Disclaimer I mostly have the same problems as you do, so this is coming from someone who's also trying to work this stuff out.
Your value range is pretty good but imo the light side isn't light enough.
Mostly what you could improve on is brushwork.
As in the appropriate use of low and high opacity brushes and working with an appropriate brush size.
There's small visible brushmarks all over the face, you could eventually blend them out but from what I've been able to find people recommend working with a brush that's as large as possible for any given task.

>>4554362
That's exactly why I think prokos approach to gesture is bad for beginners, it's too easily mistaken for simplified contour drawing.
Tbf his explanation is actually pretty good it's just his application that's not really that helpful.
Have a look at how a bunch of different people approach the subject, the tim gula vids on prokos channel arn't bad but the goto guy for gesture is definitely vilppu.

Yes but art is still secondary nature. There are numerous examples for both manga and western comics with shit tier art being successful.

And besides this whole question was originally about the Mangakas and their art abilities. Despite popular belief usually the mangaka himself is NOT the main source of the art, at least not today anymore, save for the rough drafts. The assistant or group of assistants are the ones that do the actual drawing.

Honestly this is a perfect example. The overbearing perspective in the first panel of the draft is far more interesting then the bland finished version. The draft isn't great but the final version is just so much duller in comparison. Absolutely no narrative being told through the finished panel.

lovin that sense of movement and scale. work on cleaning up those lines a little bit though-- the "sketchy" look is indicative of low confidence line work. Just move the pen with a little more oomph and you'll get cleaner crisper line work. If you dont get a perfect line in the first go just ctrl-z and try again. You've already proven you understand scale really well so you'll get the right line eventually and then you'll get better at getting the line first try.

TL;DR: You're sick af just be bold with lines.

If you draw daily, and ensure you focus on and improve one piece of the puzzle, in 100 days you will have 100 shitty drawings BUT you will have improved 100 pieces of the puzzle.

Symbol drawing can mean many things.

When drawing realistically from life it means that you're drawing what you think is there instead of what's actually there. You're missing a lot of the details.

When drawing from memory it means you're either drawing too flat, or you're missing detail.

Like this: >>4553585

Note that the idea relates more to realistic drawing than cartoony or heavily stylised stuff. For those, if people say you're symbol drawing you can tell them to go fuck themselves.

Symbol drawing, as i define it, is a lack of understanding of form and the inability to draw something as it is, instead of how your brain perceives and categorizes it. Instead of drawing the eye as a complex 3d form rotated in space, almost like a rendered model, you end up drawing it as it's surface level appearance, its symbol. An apple as a circle with a line at the top. An eye as an almond with a circle in the middle and straight lines jutting out from the top and bottom. Whenever you start associating a shape as the way to draw that thing then you've assigned a symbol to that object and stopped seeing the 3d form.

Also the profile is a bit girly too imo, to make him more manly id make the cheekbone a tiny bit smaller and id make the lower face a bit bigger. I wish i could redline this for you but i can only draw on paper.

should I feel bad about the fact im regressing??
I finally found what I love drawing, shota, but I used to draw nothing but girls HUGE HUGE big tits and now looking at my old art, ITS SO MUCH BETTER
and my current art is bad like really bad but I love it a lot more and it feels more personal.

How do I stop this, and yesterday night I drew an anime girl and it was fun it was really good for me but I am unhappy with it because I feel like I am being forced to draw her, but I feel happy and free when I am drawing shota.

You should draw art for you, not for other people.

when you're in the hospital and dying, are you really going to be thinking 'oh man, I really wish I had drawn more popular shit for likes on Twitter'?

Nah, I don't think so.

>> No.4555967

>>4555956
No I used to love doing that stuff and it was before I started using twitter too, and I never posted my art on /jp/ for (you)s either.
I love touhou and I loved boobhus so I always drew those for myself
characters like Utsuho and Tewi I would draw constantly with big boobs for myself.

but Now I like shota a lot more....and now I only draw my bad shota ocs and they are a lot uglier.
I don't care about clout or anything, infact my twitter has almost no art on it and only anime screenshots. and I am fine with 8 followers.

My advice would be to start with simpler shapes, not a portrait.

Like start with cubes and cilinders and spheres.

Ok, so head and talons look nice, the rest needs correction.

When you think wings, in your mind comes instantly the thought: "One horizontal line, then connect with lots of w's." As for tail, "Oh, it looks like a flattened oval." That is symbol drawing.

Look picrel. Observe. The wing is covered with feathers, small on the top, big knifey looking at the bottom, about 6 rows, 4 small, 1 medium, 1 big.

Every feather of the 2 rows has a light grey line going through it. The 4 top rows kinda look like roof tiles of old homes.

A bottom row feather has two sides, the left being darker and 3 times wider than the right. Both sides of the feather are straight, up until the end of the bonelet, where the little hairs make a specific curve.

Think of everything in terms of shapes, lines and colors. Don't say, "Oh, crows are black, I paint everything black." See picrel. The feathers have dark grey, white and light grey on them. Both sides are dark grey shapes, the right side has strokes of white, and a light grey line between them.

There is a completely black line under every feather, as each casts a shadow. The light grey line tapers at the end, top feathers lie inbetween bottom ones.

>> No.4556086

>>4556079
Also, middle row is twice as big as the top rows, and bottom row is twice as big as the middle row.

>> No.4556099

Good post. Feathers have different purposes, and that influences shape. Wings have definite structures - a hummingbird's wings are the same idea, but completely different in structure to an eagle. An albatross, who glides a lot, has a completely different structure to it's wings than an eagle, which has wings designed for speed, power, and agility.
Form and function. It's something to keep in mind when studying nature.
