2-3 on average, sometimes I got surges of motivation and drew for 6+ hours but then it dwindled after I saw no progress and went on a dry spell for days or even weeks. I fell for Scott Robertson and Loomis memes but saw no improvement, tried "just drawing", some (((tutorials))) from digital artists.... All for nothing. I'm doing Proko's gesture drawing now which is the only thing that ever felt somewhat productive.

I don't believe you, post work. I only draw like 3 times a week and definitely make progress every couple of months.

Here's the only recent one that's not an unfinished sketch.
I don't have any pictures of my very first drawings handy, but just imagine the worst most deformed Loomis heads you've ever seen in /beg/ and you get the idea.

I did decide about two weeks ago to start grinding more fundies. I've been looking at Vilppu, Hampton, Anatomy for sculptors. This is not the first time I've tried the fundies route though. I periodically decide to "do more fundies" every couple months and, well, you see the results. I feel like things are clicking a little better this time but I might just be fooling myself. It really does feel quite hopeless.

I'd argue that's still fine, depends on what you studied since we can't see all your knowledge in one image.

>> No.4541118

>>4541016
this is better than a complete beginner, but it seems that you skipped anatomy, no neck, armpit is completely wrong if you studied the muscles you'd know that. You didn't improve a ton because you didn't actually tackle your issues, didn't do what you were suppose to, didn't get critiques at least not from anyone else that's serious about art, and now you got a critique you finally know what to work on and can improve. If you show people your drawings from reference people can tell you what you did wrong, you can fix those mistakes and then you'll improve, I have no doubt in my mind you can't draw well from observation. I think the moral of the story is you didn't improve because you didn't get critiques, or you didn't listen to them, or you didn't tackle your issues.

>>4541118
>it seems you skipped anatomy
You're right. I've just started trying to learn more anatomy to fix that.
>no neck
Everyone mentions that, but, it's actually quite easy to bring your chin down to your chest and hide your neck completely in this position. You're right about everything else though. I looked at so many freaking pictures of armpits and still could not understand it. I hope doing more anatomy and construction will help.
>I have no doubt in my mind you can't draw well from observation
I did this from reference, I thought it was ok.

>> No.4541187

Animu styles (which you obviously seem to be going for) almost always elongate the neck, so even if a real human can do that, an animu girl probably can't.

go deep into perspective before anatomy, you'll learn the shapes of the bones and muscles very quickly ones you have a good intuition for drawing in 3d

yeah that's ok in terms of general proportions, show me an observational drawing of girl similar to the one you posted from reference though, I'll undoubtedly see glaring issues.

become a crab, it's the only path for people like us

I have like 1000hours of drawing(have an app that counts time), over the span of like 1.5 years and I'm still below /beg/ tier. the entry level for art is pretty high and talent is pretty important, being a crab is much easier.

>> No.4541247

I didn't say anything wrong or out of the ordinary like practice an obscure exercise, it's all common knowledge on here, all things professionals would say. If you can't draw well from observation you can't draw well from imagination.

I thought I had at least some intuition for 3D though? Obviously I'm not a master but I don't think I know nothing. Here's an example from imagination of the type of construction I've been practicing for the past week.
I watched Vandruff's entire perspective course a couple months back and I don't feel like spending more time on that would be the best thing for me right now.

I'm the guy who's been posting all his work and I also think I'm near a thousand hours (I've been counting hours since October, there's a lot before that I didn't count but I think I'm near a thousand total).
I'm dog shit, but at the same time I think I've been able to progress from the absolute zero that I started at. So I figure that if I keep working at it, I'll keep improving. So I'm not going to give up, and I'd encourage you not to give up either.

>> No.4541379

It's not uncommon for beginner artists to start off completely misguided.
You could attempt to ask for help to see if you are studying right either here or from a professional.
There is a chance too that you did learn something, but you just aren't seeing the improvements yet
