IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

READ THE STICKY if you need guidance.

Some ground rules to start this thread and the next /beg/ threads off:

>if you are /beg/
Don't ever give advice.
You can relate and share your hardships with other /beg/s, but never give them advice.
If you MUST give advice, start the reply off with "I'm beg, but what worked for me is..."

>Before you post your work
1. Every person giving advice here expects for you to have atleast read some of the sticky, and that you already know what you should be doing to improve.
In that light, replies such as "grind more fundamentals" are perfectly viable advice.
We expect you to know what the general fundamentals are (gesture, anatomy, perspective, drapery, etc.), and we expect you to know where you can find resources to practice these subjects.
Sometimes literally the only good advice to give is to practice more and improve you technique.

2. DO NOT post your 5 minute sketches that you didn't put much thought into. If you do post them then make sure to ask for SPECIFIC advice on a specific subject.
If you post a doodle and ask "where did i go wrong" or "how should I continue from here", expect to get meme replies such as "Loomis".

Follow these simple rules and the generals will become much more productive for both the /beg/s and the people giving advice.

There's not a single god damn book in the stick that actually tells you what you should draw or how you should draw it.
Loomis gives you some vague "now try some of your own!" but that's it.
Art books are mostly just the author mogging on you and giving you draw the rest of the owl tier diagrams.
I am still waiting for someone to explain what "grind fundies" actually means, in terms of the actual physical steps you should take and what specific exercises you should do.

So either the people giving advice is right and this general is truly meaningless since all you have to do is grind fundamentals if you are a /beg/. Or these people are wrong and there is actually better advice than just saying "loomis" or "fundies".

>just mindless copying
no

Visual representation (drawing or painting) takes intense focus and the ability to self-check if proportion is correct, aka 'learning to see' (i dislike this term). Perspective, construction, anatomy only comes after you can control proportion.

Copying instructional perspective or anatomy illustrations in a way that will 'sink in' requires you to copy them correctly. If you copy bridgman but do so inaccurately, you're wasting time.

You see it all the time: guy copies bridgman, gets it decent but fucks up proportions. Copies a picture but fucks up proportion. Bitches that he didn't learn anything from bridgman.

Proportion: are the marks correctly spaced in relation to one another? Look at all the shit in /beg/ where someone copies from any kind of reference and ask yourself "can this fucker control proportion?"

Doing sight-size bargue plates will prevent this. It will teach you to measure, which is fundamental to all other fundamentals. Construction gods like will weston can only juggle forms like they do because their ability to control 2D proportion is hardwired into their brains and they don't have to practice it anymore.

Construction, anatomy and perspective are like riding a bike with no hands.

Controlling 2d proportion is riding a bike.

Gridding is using training wheels

Sight size is your dad running behind you to prevent falls while you learn to subconsciously maintain balance.

I rejected the fundies when I first started out and now im making sure I’ll read the books and understand them. You don’t try to learn the entire book in one week, you do it in increments per day so absorbing all the informations effectively.
You don’t treat it like test for an exam and then a week later forget everything.

The game it’s called custom maid 3d 2, some of the anatomy of the models are a bit questionable but at least knowing the mistakes means your study of it won’t include it. You flattened the forms too much by using flat crosshatching instead of hatching along with the shape of the objects.

You depend on line way too much, you need to learn how to make forms with a change in value instead,

Your values are too light and washed out. What kind of pencil and paper are you using? Do you know how to use a pencil set (The ones marked H F and B) and do you own one?

My advice (other than let your love for fat fucks to guide your hand) is to draw a lot of circles in the beginning, let them kind of overlap to make the proportions right before going into the details. I'm still a /beg/ so take what I say with a grain of salt.

A loose grip will help you, fixed grips don't produce the best circles.

Then, start different body parts with marks to help you understand the volumes of each body piece. Then, slowly piece them together with different angles each time.

>> No.4513281

Brother you need to think about perspective.

If you are looking at the head in this perspective, you cant see the top of the head, you should be able to see the bottom of the box Hence you should be able to see the bottom of the nose for both images

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm-xtdM0s2s Ths exercise will help with this.

Michael Hamptons book design and invention will help with the planes of the face. Couple this with the above exercise to understand how the form changes when you look at it in different perspectives..

I'm flipperhanded freak with no motor skills, but I still got a cheap Wacom (I initially thought it would be flatter, more mobile replacement for laptop mouse) and so i decided to draw.
I always loved the way Gogh and Monet drew amazing landscapes with just a few simple strokes of the brush, no accurate line work or smooth workso fine you could not even see single strokes anymore.
I experimented a lot in Krita and I especially love how some of the tools can be used to smudge, trail and wash other strokes already placed.
So I picked up my pen, traced a few landscape shots, tried to learn the importance of light and how shadows fall.
I now decided to draw a scene just from reference material, not directly tracing it.
I figured I'd go from broad, soft strokes with wet paint tools to finer dry tools to give texture.

How am I doing so far? Are there any good exercises or instructions to this style of painting? (it's supposed to be a waterfall in a tight ravine
