Seeing a bunch of liberals I guess in this thread. Have you ever met a teacher? Some middle aged overweight almost cat lady who never wanted to leave highschool so they got a job working as a teacher. They are for the most part chosen for the patience with children and also because they are closer to childrens mental faculties so they make a good match. I don't see anything wrong with this honestly, those teachers I am sure did something that made this child feel that way, and frankly might makes right. I wish him the best in his aims as an artist and should he go the other route I hope he gets the high score.

I don't exactly remember what the assignment was anymore, but it had something to do with summer. So I drew a image of kids, naked bathing in a lake with a summer house in the background. Apparently this drawing alarmed my teacher so much, she called my parents and the whole thing blew up and I got threatened with the possibility of being taken away from my parents, because of child abuse or some shit. I just remembered being so terrified at the possibility of never seeing my parents again, so I promised I would never draw naked people again. I've buried this memory for so long, the details are fussy, but this thread made me remember it and at that time to be very traumatizing and I cried a lot since I didn't want to get separated from my parents.

now we're both adults and he introduced me to D&D lol he was just a massive tattle.

i doodled a lot from an early age. the kinds of doodles i drew were tame compared to my cousin. one time in middle school his teacher told the class to draw whatever and he drew a doodle of his teacher shooting a classmate. it was all gravy, she just laughed and gave him an A. apparently grown ups will tolerate stuff if it doesn't make them feel afraid for their lives or their students lives, which doesn't make sense because it's just fucking kids doodling.

it's like people are afraid of ideas if they don't understand where they come from, and kids aren't supposed to be smart so it makes them uncomfortable when they can't coerce a kid into feeling sorry for doing what society considers "abnormal".

when i was in 5th grade i made a doodle of a french guy wearing a beret and a mustache. it was from an above/vertical perspective (i don't know the proper term) with him waving at me. i randomly added a thought bubble with "hail hitler" in it. i thought it was funny because i knew hitler was german, i just liked being lolmao random. my teacher was pissed and she told me hitler was responsible for killing jews and i was like, "sorry, i didn't know." i feel bad that she had to put up with my antics.

another time when i was in 7th grade our science teacher took us to the highschool greenhouse for science bizness. we were standing around waiting to leave and i got bored to a started drawing with my finger on the condensation. i drew a Bam skateboard logo, the one that looks like a cartoon bomb. the teacher shouted at me and i suddenly remembered that bombs were part of the zero tolerance policy. i erased it quickly, not sure if she could see it looked like a bomb.

is it bad to make kids feel like their art must be clandestine? like, it's just art. it's not like art ever hurt anybody.

In elementary school i draw a picture of a safe and wrote some text underneath it with mediaval font that was in some history book. The text actually looked kinda legit, because I wrote it with ink and aged the paper in tea. I also burned the paper edges with a lighter. As a kid I was a super fan of the yugioh manga which is full of monsters and, since the manga isn't censored, dark magic imagery.

Issue is that that included a ton of hexagrams which look eerily similar to a certain other star.

A 6 year old that obsessively draws monsters with stars of david triggers certain alarms.

I drew a giant palm tree penis on the back of a test and when I passed it forward someone else saw it and told the teacher. I was publicly shamed and humiliated for the rest of my high school career. Then I stabbed someone and no one messed with me. I highly recommend anyone having trouble in school to just stab someone in the bathroom. Worst case scenario they expel you, but that's actually what you want. First day of class with this insufferable bitch was about 5 minutes of rushing over the syllabus. The rest of class was a slideshow of all the students that had taken even one of her classes, and where they placed in the annual art contest at the school.

For my final project, I made the mistake of wanting to do a digital painting instead of traditional. I asked her if it was okay and she approved. I shot my own references for it so she couldn't accuse me of copy-pasting something from the internet, worked my ass off, and even got it printed up as a sweet poster mounted on backing board so that it was presentable.

She watched me work on it in class, saw all my reference photos, and constantly asked me questions about how digital art in Photoshop worked. Seemed to be very into purchasing a tablet herself. I had a Wacom tablet and I guess she was okay with it because it was industry standard and considered the best of the best. I thought everything would be fine.

The judgement day comes around and after all my hard work, I'm graded. Our grades are always read out loud in front of the whole class. It's a C- because she claims I copy-pasted an image from google, even though she watched me go from sketch to full on painting. This grade nearly fails me out of the course.

Guy next to me gets an A+ for cutting titty stars out of a callgirl book and gluing them in as the stars on a shitty american flag made with colored pencils. He admitted to me that he just made up some bullshit to see how good of a grade he could get for using good supplies and low skill. Funny, but still infuriating.

I'm pissed but I'm done with her bullshit, I didn't flunk the class so I still get my credit even though it's not a great grade.

She ended up getting reported over and over by her students for raging at people and fucking up their supplies as well as emotionally abusing some to the point of needing therapy. She's since been fired. Good luck making a living off of your shit art made with expensive supplies, woman.

Meanwhile I'm studying my ass off to git gud. If I ever get into any art magazines or print my own art books I'm going to send them out to her, personally signed with a "Fuck you"

I watched Dragon Ball Z alot when I was a kid. Every time I got a drawing assignment I'd turn it into some kind of DBZ inspired fight and would ignore whatever the prompt was. I'd create stories for the stick figures and imagine them fighting in real time as I was drawing it.

One day, the prompt was "draw your family: or something and I did my usual thing. When the teacher saw it she started grilling me about my family situation and asked if I was being abused at home. When I explained to her that I was drawing rad DBZ fights they called my parents and I wasn't allowed to watch it anymore.

I was a special ed kid, I spent every hour of every class from 3rd grade onward drawing on every single piece of paper I had, homework, tests, notebooks, dry erase boards, even books.
every single time, up until 7th grade when they gave up, they would send me to the special ed room, call my parents, or take away my paper when they noticed. so I would draw on the desk, then they would take away my pencil or pen, or threaten me with fines of vandalism. so I learned to sneak a pencil or pen or marker with me, plus an eraser to erase what I would draw on the desk. they then learned to pat me down after I got my stuff taken away, after that, I flat out learned to hallucinate drawing and ended up spacing out pretty intensely. they gave up and stopped taking my shit away and let me draw because my grades fell to 0% F's and never ever recovered and I graduated in GED with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and 2 vandalism fines

I once illustrated a map of a fictional school that was used in a text based game I modified off a program my friend made. The modification transformed a turn based battle simulator into a turn based rng school shooting simulator with cryptic sprites. The designs I made were based off a lot of mass killers journals (mainly the zodiac). When the police came to question me they didn't have a copy of the program and weren't able to fully comprehend what was made. In elementary I was making a whole fighting game based on paper characters with abilities, we were drawing them with a friend during class but always after we finished class work (we were the best students because we always wanted to finish fast to get to drawing) so the teachers didn't mind too much
