Not shitposting at all and I look over the draw threads regularly. There is one poster who does excellent digital-trad work. The rest top out fairly quickly and have even less to say than VCK does (Not sure how that's possible).

There's a lot of /beg/ tier shit in there that needs to be filtered out as well.

Not hyperbole. If I said "Artstation is mediocre shit" that would be just plain stupid. But for /ic/? It's entirely spot on.

I'm here mostly for the artbook threads and seeing if anything of value.

If anything, people should shit less on VCK and learn from him. He's not perfect and he has a long way to go, but he is miles ahead of this place.

When I look at Volen CK's work I get no feeling from it whatsoever. Drab artstation copypaste bullshit with straight up photobashed elements. Never mind the mediocre technical skill, I literally can't understand how someone could value this as art, so that is what I'm trying to understand. Just a matter of taste. or what?

He doesn't have a good sense of design either. I mention in the other thread that maybe this will change but he's been doing this for 5+ years and that's one of those things that I legit wonder if someone can imprint in themselves with hard work or are they just fucked to not have an eye for it.

Not at all, but he isn't doing cartoons and illustrations. He is after the concept art gigs and narrative and storytelling. Look at the work on his website and on his instagram (https://www.instagram.com/volenck).).

As I mentioned, the number of people on this board able to pull off anything close to that, including his bland choice of composition and subject matter, and have things look passable, is one to two. I've only seen the one anon who really stands out, and he is a beast.

He tossed up a myriad of FINISHED work on his site. He didn't cower behind "it's just a WIP". This is also something I never see in /draw/. Fucking finish something.

We might be thinking of the same guy. He's very good. Then again maybe not. I can think of at least three solid artists with more of a concept art focus who've posted here within the last year.

For me this is 90% of art. If he's 5 years of hard work in and his work still lacks any artistry, I don't see any value in it. Technically it doesn't look good to me, but I'll admit not just anybody can do it. Is that impressive though? Eh, difference of perspective I suppose.
