Is looking at poses and then drawing them a good way to learn a decent anatomy? First two on the left are from looking at pics and the third one far right is combining both (which essentially it's from imagination)

yes, it's our holy grail. Sadly that's hard and no easy method. Lot's of observation from reality + photographs AND imagination drawing without references. It's important to do the latter because if you only copy your eye will only create with a reference and that's why renderfags exist. Also, recheck for anatomical and proportion errors all your drawings. And draw from life. Go to as many live model classes as possible.

I would say study Hampton and do that in conjunction with drawing poses. Drawing is always good, but why not stand on the shoulders of the giants before you?

Anatomy has been studied for a long time, and there have been many great artists and teachers figuring out tips and tricks along the way.

The main jarring thing is the elbow lines in the forearms in mid girl. The line where the forearm extenson musles join the humerus. When the middle girl is pushing away the guy you should put the bicep crook (the small "hole" where the biceps ends and where you bend the arm). That joining line you do is only seen from an external view of the arm, and we are currently watching an internal view of the middle girls arm. If you leave them, it gives the wrong impression the forearms are twisted.

Been slacking on copying, did nothing beyond the first two. I can only do it slowly but I will try to finish 5-6 by end of March. It should help with hair, and I'll hopefully get rid of these mob chara eyes and learn to draw them in detail.

I think that knowing the form comes before feeling the form. You have to know what the thing looks like and then you can simplify it into boxes and draw your wrapping lines and all that stuff. Pretty sure that's how it works for me.
Anyway I know the answer is I need to just study pelvic anatomy more, was just hoping if anyone had any tips to share though, a way of thinking about or simplifying the forms that worked well for them, etc. I'm especially confused about the abs/area between the rib cage and pelvis and how far down the crotch needs to go. It all feels highly variable from person to person and also between men and women obviously. On some people the stomach area feels very long and substantial and on others it seems to almost disappear.

I made a few adjustments just to shift some stuff. I noticed that the area around her eyes/top of her face is a more saturated red than the chin/neck, it makes it look like she has stubble. Also the lines around the mouth/nose makes her look more masculine as well.

Thanks for the quick edits! I made the areas adding the center of the face a little more saturated towards red as an attempt to use more subtle contrast as I'm still trying to figure how to execute that well. Perhaps I should incorporate the color under the chin more into the rest of the face so it doesn't look too much like chin hair? Thanks for the blueline anon! From the mistakes I made that jump out to me the first big one is an over-exaggerated jawline and overall wider face/box. This is a series of 30 second gestures that I did yesterday. I drew them a lot bigger and resized them all, then resized the canvas to be 1500x1500 so that they could all fit in this image.

I started getting serious about drawing around april 2018. I drawn for 2 month then took a break I started again around december 2018 then drawn for about 3 month. Then took another break and started again in august 2019 just for 1 month. I started drawing again one month ago so maybe Im going to stop and take a break because I feel discouraged or keep going.
On a 2 year period I’ve been drawing only 7 months, in this period I burned through 3 A4 spiral notebook of 120 sheets each plus a fucking lot of printer paper like 100 or 200 sheets worth of drawing. I got frustrated a lot and gave up a lot.
But I got the best result when I was ending a day frustrated and tried again the next day forcing myself to continue.

Here is an imagination portrait I did in april 2018 (never ever work from imagination if you are starting always copy drawing from accomplished masters and do photo as well).

Pic on the right is something I drew today. Still /beg/ tier but there is improvement. So, I'm sure you can improve too.

Thanks anon, also I'm a sucker for flyaway hair strands, but I also struggle with them, maybe just a small round brush for them (right now I'm using something more like a chalky square brush to help me balance between hard and soft edges). I redid the hair style just because I felt like it. I also tried to soften to collarbone. I didn't raise the ear much because the head is tilted upward, but I did bring it out more and finished it up a bit. Made the bottom lip more full and softened the jaw and carved/rounded the chin a bit to remove chin and raised the eyes a bit like you mentioned. I also moved the left eye in a bit like what >>4430847 said.

Is there any glaring issues in this? I’m trying to get more into NSFW art and drawing people. The worst things I can see in it is the nose and chin/jaw. The nose is only like that because I was hasty and put darker ink in while it was still wet. I’m really satisfied with how I did the hands and boobs though. Redlining and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

beg redline for a beg thread.

The hair lacks definite shapes and structure, looking like a mop instead. Try to break it down into shapes instead of leaving it an amorphous blob.

Your hair should also have a defined gesture. In yours you have limp braids that tell the viewer nothing about the direction of energy.

Also learn how to draw hands, unlike me. I changed the arm positions to look more deliberate and to improve the silhouette. Keep it up, touhouchad.

The truth is you can understand what loomis put in his drawing just by reproducing plate of loomis you find on google image.

Pic related is a guy that learned by copying random loomis plate without actually reading the books as he didn’t totally understand english at the time.
He told me he progressed by drawing loomis for a full year if I remember correctly then he did an awful lot of sketch and drawing from photo or life. And he understood concept that loomis explain in english just by looking at the drawing and analyzing them.

But he put really a lot of hours if you want to speed up the process you will go faster by reading what loomis has to say.

the light on the butt is too harsh. That sun you drew is not the primary source of light by the way you rendered that butt. If it was, the skirt would cast a shadow over the top hemisphere of the butt. The hair likewise is not rendered accurately.

Adding to what >>4434756 has said, the folds and creases in the clothing have no shadows. The hair casts no shadow on the face. The skin of the face and hand shouldn't behave differently under light from the skin on the ass.

if you want to quit because your work isn't pretty, then you might be missing the point of drawabox.

as a fellow /begshit/ working through it, though, im curious. what about lesson two makes you think that it might not be worth it?

that pic is taken from the website. this post is my own work and more correct on how contour lines are supposed to be done - rounded forms in 3d. what i posted above is flat shit with even spaced and overdone lines.

my bad, i'm a retard.

so you think that uncomfortable is a hack that lacks skill in the techniques that he's trying to teach?

are you just basing this on little demonstration doodles like the one you posted? have you noticed him slipping up anywhere else

not so much a hack as there are just better teachers. main thing drawabox has going for it is it’s free. i will say again that i thought lesson 1 was good, though.

>not so much a hack as there are just better teachers

any recommendations, then? what better ways are there to learn whatever drawabox tries to teach?

and if you got the gist of this exercise, why does it matter that the demonstration looked sort of shitty? seems like it got the job done.

its called dynamic sketching, its literally what drawabox was literally based on, and its available right now in the video courses thread

>>4425269

besides that you can always just read robertson or any other perspective course and start applying it, DS is literally just about learning to draw through objects and feel form by drawing tons of things from life

aight hans's course is a fine alternative, thanks for suggesting it. didn't mean to get salty at you.

is that really why you're fizzling out of drawabox? you just know the content from other sources already? if it seems like im overly invested in it, it's cuz i'm an absolute newbie and drawabox is literally the first extensive are program i've put effort in.

if you're an absolute newbie the only thing that its absolutely important you do is draw tons, preferably from life/photos, until you're confident in your linework and know how to observe things correctly (and hopefully how to self-critique)
