if you are going to have a credit card. only spend what you know you can pay off at the end of the month you don't want to be making payments with a shit ton of interest, and don't do huge purchases unless you know you can pay them off without a doubt. If you cant. don't buy it with a credit card.
so like every month get yourself some pens/sketchbooks or w/e you use. then absolutely make sure it's payed on time.
I have mine on auto pay too so i don't forget.
credit is around 730 currently.

it's also good to not use over a certain % of your assigned credit limit per month. you want to keep it below 30% of the limit you're given. it looks good on you.

also credit checks can go against your score so avoid giving your Social out unless you're doing something like financing a vehicle.

also dont cancel a credit card that'll ruin your score. you want to show that you have credit history.

Hey anons, I don't know if this is the best thread to ask this, but I sadly don't see any other relevent one in the catalog so, here I go.
I draw NSFW and it's been a while since I need to start making commissions. I'm not very good with social interaction and I lack confidence about my drawing skills. I'm also not very consistent with my work and while I can sometimes produce decent looking things, some other times, my creations are either bland or almost raping my own eyes. This is a normal thing though and it's okay during learning. The problem is when it comes to commissions, people are putting money into it and all I want for them is the best looking piece. I don't know if I can keep a level that would match with their expectations and it blocks me. Growing up poor and still not having much money has made me lose touch with the reality of things about how people spend money and I don't know if this is that much of a big deal.

So how would you deal with this? How did it go for you when you first started? Should I just jump into it and stop worrying too much? Do you guys have any tips (specific or general)?

This is all my experience with 200 followers, so take it as you will.

It's a social network. Every time I put in some effort - follow people, like their work, leave honest compliments, sometimes DM - I immediately see an uptick in follow-backs. Sometimes you encounter people who also comment on your work. Be honest about it though.

Think: how do I find new people? what makes me follow someone? And then do that to others. The biggest thing holding me back is that most of the time I just can't be bothered...

As with everything else "flavor of the week" fanart and "draw this in your style" stuff tends to attract more people, but that's usually more likes, less comments and follows.

Finally, smaller accounts are more prone to following you than bigger ones.

PS: obv the better your art the easier it will be to attract eyeballs on the hashtag new page.

I checked the twitter accounts of people posting in this thread and most of you guys have under 100 followers, and those above 100 are in the lower hundreds, there were very few people in the lower thousands. Meanwhile there's a ton of people /ic/ would consider /beg/ with thousands and tens of thousands of followers. What are they doing to get those followers?

Networking with other artist, posting more frequently (even if its low quality), doing fanart, etc.

All things considered, even the skilled artists of /ic/ are usually here because they're too autistic to fit in with the more "normal" artistic social groups. Few people want to follow the weirdo who posts once a month with a single portrait captioned "just finished a study", regardless of how technically skilled it may be.

If I figure out the formula I'll get back to you lol. Helpful hint in the meantime, though: people fuckin' love WIPs. Ups your posting frequency, keeps your feed full of images, and gets people interested in sticking around to see the final product.

You, the account owner, are forgettable. Your OC that you draw every now and again doing whatever the hell they do is way more memorable and interesting. People will stick around to see more art of them.

Doesn't have to be something cringe or cheesy, either. Like drawing martial artists poses? Draw yourself a cool fighter guy and use him repeatedly in your studies instead of random generic figures. Anything works so long as it shows up frequently enough to get stuck in their heads.

You might be on to something in that they love having a specific OC to associate with you. Even if you prefer drawing more than one OC, they'll gravitate to one if you draw them repeatedly and have them as your account icon.

Deviantart and Art Station are usually just used as a gallery / portfolio (artstation being for professional). Pixiv is good if you know 日本語, and / or fit into that typical pixiv anime rendering style to gain followers, otherwise you arent getting too much attention there. Newgrounds is great for NSFW, especially interactive games and animation. If you crank out a promising NSFW visual novel, you can make bank on patreon, trust me i know. And your typical Instagram and Twitter is for networking, advertising commissions, and interacting with people. idk People go on Tumblr anymore, but if you can fit your art into a preexisting fandom, there might be some oppurtunities there.

It might be worth throwing your art up on tumblr is you're doing fanart for smaller series/fandoms. Tumblr is still more of a hub for dedicated fans of niche series than other social media sites, so it can be useful if you make works that fit into that category.

Instagram is not a good source of gaining networking. You will need around 300k+ followers to get some money from them. Twitter requires less follower and you can make money faster than instagram.
