4327268 No.4327268 [Reply] [Original]

No painting has made a impression on me like Ivan the Terrible and his Son Ivan, by Illya Repin. The emotion in Ivan's eyes is so strong its almost disturbing, the combination of grief, shock, regret and horror over having done the unthinkable, killing his own son. All the former resentment gone, now he is desperately putting pressure on the wound, clinging to his son as if it will keep him alive, and the hand of Ivan Jr on his fathers arm, a sad, faraway look in his eyes as fades away from conciousness

It made a big impression when it was first exhibited. When visitors first saw it, they had to turn away and some even fainted
A guy reported being seized by an overwhelming sensation seeing it, and took an object nearby, broke the glass and made three large gashes

this one is really impressive, specially the angle of the camera, we are supossed to be superior to this man but indiferent at the same time to his "tragedy"?, im confused, and that diagonal line makes it feel like he is being dragged to a dark void or some shit, weird.

A lot of cape comics have great artists but a lot of writers who dunno how to use that artist to their potential nor appreciate art or compositing a shot. This 2007 Superman page is a rarity. It isn’t flashy, the use of gradients isn’t a pastel hell , there are no words. I won’t even give context. It just feels lonely and bittersweet

The 3 gashes in your pic (1913) were a politically charged attack of an art movement. The recent attack (2018) was because of "historical inaccuracy".

These paintings are huge and awe inspiring, reproductions do not do them justice and it's hard to tell without being there
