i think he wanted to avoid the phrase "changed his art" or "improved his art" because that would be a statement he would have to defend. he doesn't have to defend that it changed his life, because we can't successfully argue against that. how can we know what did or didn't change his life? those are just his emotions. but we can objectively critique his art.

if i'm being completely fair, his art is low to mid beg tier. i know there's a lot of hatefulness on /ic/, but i really don't mean the guy any harm. i could attack all kinds of things about his appearance and what have you. but i'm afraid he hasn't put the hard work into earning any kind of following or giving any kind of advice. it's just not clear we should be listening to him. it doesn't mean he can't give good advice (broken clocks and such), but we have to consider the reputation/credibility of people we're listening to, at a minimum. everybody has a fucking platform now, and any idiot can build a following where they spew absolute fucking nonsense.

look at his video history. his channel only became an art channel when his spongebob video received a quarter million views. then he went full-time with art "tutorials". he's a part-time doodler, at best.

you'll also notice a new trend of slightly longer than 10 minute videos. that number is no mistake. it's a youtube/adsense thing to get your video to 10 minutes. i don't know how or why it works, but everybody has been doing it for a few years. that's why you get 10 minutes of bullshit, and 30 seconds of actual content on a video about how to fix a leaking toilet or whatever. he doesn't want to inspire you or help you. he's just another clickbait youtuber.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing, I think challenging yourself is very beneficial, but I don't know if I understand how you can reinforce "wrong" things with drawing. Isn't the whole point that I can warp and design things as I desire? Even if I'm drawing things wrong for months, my stroke and eye are going to improve. If after all that I decide that I need to draw things more accurately, I would just dedicated my practice to nailing those proportions.
