4311211 No.4311211 [Reply] [Original]

I'm sick of being a fan-art cuck farming likes and followers. I'm sick of all these other fan-art cucks bragging about their numbers they got by pandering to fans of something like they accomplished something massive and are a famous artist. It's not real, this is not what being an artist was supposed to be about.
The 20k Twitter followers mean nothing if you don't actually like drawing Steven Universe scat porn for limp dick retards. Those people don't want to see the comic your making or your paintings, they want to see the jew nosed girl pushing a log out the backdoor.

I just want to delete it all and start over. How do I get myself out there as an artist drawing for myself and not a fan-art cuck farming attention?
Where do I even start?

draw for yourself and ignore the followers that leave if you believe in your own words

Then stop it. Draw what you want. Slowly taper off the fanart and when your fans start complaining that you're not doing as much fan work anymore, ignore them or tell them to go suck an egg because this is what you want to do now.

Kek, for this line alone I excuse this thread.
Why don't you literally just start drawing what you want? The only reason not to is if you need the fanart to put food on the table right now.

>I'm tired of doing fanart, so everyone else should be!!!!
Wrong line of thinking.

Also this might surprise you, but lots of people ENJOY doing fanart, some don't even have any intention of doing original stuff. Not every instrument player is a composer; in fact, most only learn how to play other people's songs.

You should make fanart of whatever it is that you truly enjoy only, so you won't regret it.
And if you want to do original stuff, why not? I for one don't care about the characters in a piece, I care about the art style.
The only thing fanart gives me is extra keywords to randomly find the picture around; I might google "Splatoon" and end up seeing your drawing, but I will never Google your Ellya Quenniëthiel elf's name by accident, for instance.

Everyone I've ever know eventually reaches a dead end with fanart where they're regretting it. You will too eventually.
Fanart leads to nothing but annoyances. "Will you draw x for me?" and "Are you planning to draw more of y?"
No, I'm fucking doing my own thing.
"Oh... *unfollows*"

I mean, feel free to keep dancing like an art monkey for people in order to tell people you "made it" (however empty of a meaning that may be doing fanart)
But you will never truly make it by being a fanart monkey.

Based, people who "enjoy" drawing fanart need to realize that nobody actually cares about their work, they only care that they see their favorite character, otherwise you're nothing to them. Drawing fanart is the most soulless and uncreative fucking thing you could be doing anyway as opposed to original works of art: you're literally aping off the work of others while never producing anything you can truly call your own.

If you're starting out drawing as a beginner with the intention of drawing fanart, stop immediately and actually think about being original, otherwise get the fuck out and stop being the literal cancer degrading art and art communities.

>nobody actually cares about their work, they only care that they see their favorite character
This. When you decide to transition into making more original work after doing nothing but fanart, your engagement will vanish. No one will care.

Fan art is easy and leads to short term but fleeting social media gains. Original work is tougher and more creatively challenging, but it lays the foundation for a real, actual career as an illustrator / artist.

No one is forcing you to draw fanart. Draw what you want. You're implying the root issue are the followers taste. Not something you can control.

Fanart gets attention because people already know and care about the character, there are more people searching for it than for generic tags or the name of whatever original thing you made.
Original and creative can get attention, but mostly if you stick to a theme or piece of work. Viewers like consistency.
Whatever original thing you made can get an audience, but you'd need to shill it a bit and keep at it. As shown by webcomics.

Get some paper and start writting a script for a story.Anything that comes to your mind and for your liking. After that start drawing the characters and go aheav on working on a comic.Don't worry, you will find your way once you start.

most OC's are fucking ugly trash so the whole idea of OC just puts a bad taste in my mouth

I also feel like you need a following that appreciates you art style + mutuals that like you in general to be encouraged to do more OC, otherwise people will just not care

It helps to draw fanart of what you actually like so it doesn't suck as much. It does suck though that most don't even really care other than seeing the character or whatever.
