rendering is not exclusive to digital, heck you can do it with a pencil if you like, but yes it's a modern word you could say. I think back in the days it was just an unspoken thing since "painting" in itself already included (and assumed) the application of light in space. In other words light and rendering go hand in hand

I understand the appeal of simplified characters with exaggerated bodies, juxtaposed with detailed outfits and hairstyles such as Granblue Fantasy. I am fond of DangonFuda's work. Though I dislike much of her later work, Sakimichan was able to pull off stylized features and semi-realism phenomenally well.

Not only does the rendering feel like it was plastered over a PVC figure, the overrendered emoji expression kills whatever fucking arousal, that even a fan of big tits like myself, would find out of this shit.

It is just unpleasant as fuck to look at, especially with such a shit coloring job (despite Japanese artists normally being masters at color theory and knowing precisely how to use it for effect).

It's not perfectly executed but there is a logic to it. It's an obvious exaggeration and hard lean on the "rule" of using the cooler colors to recede and the warmer colors to advance, and the hue choices for the neck shadow don't betray that logic that's clearly established in the rest of the piece. That particular hue choice for a shadow might seem too saturated but it also might have been a conscious design decision because it establishes itself as a contrasting landmark to guide you from one focal point (the face) to the rest of the piece it's almost directly connected to that relatively white hot shape of the sternocleidomastoid.

See I can't agree with your arguments towards that view as they seem to come from a perspective more of bias than of constructive criticism. Mainly in your exaggerations of "emoji faces", "shit coloring" and the accusation that its a paintover of a figure. Its simplified, but the face still conveys shape and isn't just a flat surface, even the nose and lips have simple depth to them. The coloring along with the lights and shadows convey exactly what they need to; from the harsh light beating down her face from the sun to the reflective light around her lower torso, its easy to believe she's part of the simple beach backdrop. As for PVC thing, I kinda see it, but considering those are designed with appeal in mind, I can't see the issue with the resemblance, especially when its already been proven in-thread he doesn't actually do that.

I've seen my fair share of uncanny shit, this doesn't trigger that level of repulsive/unnerving, its just regular old stylized exaggeration of the human form to me.
