Because shadows have color that's opposite of the light color. It's not just a darker tone of whatever color the shadow is on. It also changes basked on the skin color.

That method of picking colors is fine I guess if you want to be a /beg/ tier artist. But if you want to actually be good you need to learn about how light and color really interact.

no, it doesn't. the weakest part is honestly the feet section but other than that the rest of the book is fine.

the kawacy hue shifting looks really dated as a digital technique. thousands of shitty artists have been formulaically shifting shadows toward blue/purple and highlights towards yellow without a thought about the color relationships in the image. a single boomerang curve like linran's example is a more practical use to learners than that wiggly 3.
