If you literally mean that book (or books like that) , i'll give a honest answer. I used to read that before I had any proper contact with the internet. You will kinda learn how to make faces with kinda right proportions but that's it. And it doesn't really help that the style it teaches is deviantart tier carbage.

well what are some other material that can teach me to draw?

They are better than nothing. I would never reccomend one to a beginner on /ic/, but reading these as a kid definitely helped me acquire gains I feel. Basically, they're useful if you're 12 or under, if you're any older you might as well go for more advanced texts.

No, all books are designed to frustrate you and make you quit to lower the competition.

Books like pic related are for pre-teens and teenagers, they're mostly school book fair garbage as far as I remember. I think I actually had this one when I was a kid. If you're 13 and want to draw shoddy, paint-by-numbers anime, it's the book for you.
Then there's shit like the Chris Hart books which are for beginners that don't know any better. They should be avoided entirely.

I don't really agree with using YouTube to learn to draw. That's how I fell into the Mark Crilley trap.

Most YouTubers make a "How to Draw an Eye" video and then draw ONE single eye. Absolutely no construction and you're lucky if they barely explain what they are doing. This is absolutely disgusting and I wish more people would realize that a "How to Draw an Eye" video is not actually going to make you good at drawing eyes.

You need to learn the anatomy of eyes and the construction of eyes, not to mention the construction of the entire face and the planes of the face. Glenn Vilppu and Steve Huston comes to mind when it comes to faces.

I would recommend going to the Video Course Threads that we have here and getting those courses. They're 10,000x better than the trash on YouTube.

Christopher Hart, and he’s not just for anime. Stock poses, muscular system, simplified skeleton, Disney-esque styles, etc.
Certainly better than than Meme Crilley.

I'm pretty sure most of us thought of that.

Felt like it was too obvious though.

Here is your grail:
Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life
Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and Expanded Edition (Burne Hogarth)
Creative Perspective for Artists and Illustrators (Dover Art Instruction) (Ernest W. Watson)
The Animator's Survival Kit: A Manual of Methods, Principles and Formulas for Classical, Computer, Games, Stop Motion and Internet Animators (Richard Williams)

Use these and draw regularly and eventually you will be able to draw anything you want.

Fucking loved this book, I would just copy the characters I thought were cool all the time. My elementary school library also had how to draw Zelda books that gave you draw by numbers instructions for the OOT and MM concept art, I always had it checked out.

These books are not great technically, but not entirely worthless to a kid's soul. These books fuel your passion and make it all seem doable while subtly enforcing that drawing is a skill that requires work, even if you don't get it at the time.

Anyone have OPs book as a pdf? Something about that bad anime style is really comfy.
