4229893 No.4229893 [Reply] [Original]

Clip Studio Paint is 50% off for black Friday, and I'd like to get it. However, I just read that the Japanese version has more functionality. What's the difference between the Japanese and the English versions? If I understand correctly, they come with asset stores, are those any different?

>> No.4229896

You might be reading old info, since the english version used to be called manga studio and published by a third party, but has since been published by the actual company and called csp.
Don’t take my word for it though.
Also, you can just go to the jap materials marketplace online.

I know, but there are still some differences between CSP as well. The only specific difference I was able to gather is that the Japanese version allows you to add sound to animations (in the EX version), while the English version doesn't.

>> No.4229905

The only difference between the two is the language. You can download assets from either store, they use different premium currencies though. Otherwise, it doesn't matter.

No, it's the same software, what happened is that CSP updates used to be released firstly in Japan and after some time in the rest of the world, but it isn't the case anymore, we all have the same version now.

It's different with Clip Studio Modeler. Japan version is a proper 3d software, while the eng one is just a tool for importing in CSP already existing 3d models. Nothing to worry about though.

the defaults are great. play with those a while and learn how to make your own brushes/edit the features. some of the features are a bit different than other programs. bind a key to turn on and off color mixing because it might give you unexpected results with color brushes that mix the ground color.

search clip assets, the jp and en sites tend to have slightly different top daily picks but mostly similar overall. it's really easy to get too buried in downloading brushes that don't work how you like at all, so really hold off on hoarding speaking from experience. some of the official clip brushes are good and great bases for other brushes, like the flat and oil pastel.

I was looking forward to that update but when I tried it, it was incredibly clunky even for how I expect free software to work. I can't see regular people trying to get used to it, doesn't feel built for artists at all, and the masking was really unintuitive. It's easier to generate an angle rainbow gradient and process that, then mask that off than to use Krita tools. It's a good first step though. I hope they can revive that Munsell-like color mixing effort in some way that was a GSoC project.

I really like this, I've recreated some of my watercolor palettes and find it more flexible to mess with. Will try to make something similar in CSP.

Buy the base model, if you think you're missing the features enough then upgrade the next time there's a sale. The Pro version has the majority of tools you'll use. The only thing you're missing for comics would be the project management aspect and the shortcut of edge detection. The edge detection is easy to do in any other photo manipulation program though and doesn't even have good results. You can screen tone in the base version.
