I posted the guide on how to start drawing from imagination yesterday >>4197159 and I want to keep the positivity & encouragement going so here's an idea for a thread. Post your work from imagination and things that inspire you - not references or inspiring artists, just things/concepts that you find cool and inspire you to create. Kind of a moodboard. It can be about the specific drawing or just you as an artist in general. I'd love to see how you all see the world and maybe find some new inspirations for myself

I'll start

Before I fucked my back, I was obsessed with martial arts and used to do boxing. I mostly do character art now, and the people that inspired me and show in my art (in some way or another) are people like Jet Li, Bruce Lee, Buakaw, Anderson Silva, Manny Pacqiau Roberto Duran, George Foreman, Cassius Clay, Mirko Cro Cop, etc.

For example, if I draw a boxer, I'd draw them resembling or behaving like Jack Dempsey. In that case, even having them do the infamous "dempsey roll".

I was going to make something for this but it made me realize my piece-by-piece influences are all too different to put into a comprehensive board. I don't like to repeat the same themes and subjects across all my work unless it's for the same story/characters, I want variety.

I'm just saying it cause I think the viewpoint of "inspiration" Op presented with his board and repeating the same visual motifs over and over again is kind of silly and leads to uninspired, samey work. I looked over his thing on drawing from imagination and it seemed like it would be useful for artists who struggle with that, but presenting inspiration like this just seems so trite and honestly uninspired. It is like just repeating a bunch of visual themes over and over again with no regard for trying to do something more original

dude this is completely self contradictory. how can you even judge someone's inspirations? artists have been inspired by shit like farmers and beggars and created art that is hanging in museums now, of course im not saying my inspirations lead to art that hangs in museum, but im trying to say that peoples minds work in completely different ways, someone can get inspired by a piece of bread and create a masterpiece and someone can have the most bizzare ideas and create boring art. am i supposed to sit down and think about the most unique and original inspirations to force into my head because mine are considered basic by someone? im just trying to be as honest as possible, i dont want to create an edgy artsy persona that has nothing to do with me. im a simple person i dont know how to put it other way. it would be great if people filled this thread with their extra diverse avantgarde inspirations so i could pick some up and get better instead of trying to discourage everyone.

i really regret posting the guide in the first place, i wanted to help someone and get others to help me but majority of responses im getting is nonstop discouragement. even when i try to answer honestly i just get "please stop" or "copy more".

>> No.4203539

also i have no clue where you got the idea that im encouraging anyone to repeat their inspirations and get stuck in the same motifs over and over. i just asked to post whatever inspirations people have, not "post your absolute inspiration map that you apply to every artwork and never changes"

>> No.4203549

>>4203528
Having clearly defined influences and personal style is anything BUT trite and uninspired (hurrr having inspirations is uninspired).

If you think creating varied work that is undefined and all over the map, and if your work doesn't have any repeating styles of motifs, I hate to say it but your work is probably very bland and trite itself.

As for post-industrial stuff, i'm fascinated by the all compasing scope of the neoliberal consensus, like, after the keynesian world order post ww2 it took like one shitty year for the economy for people to renounce it, and instead embrace privatizations and other stuff that by the 90s became mainstream and common both among the ''center-left'' and ''center-right'' as exemplified by new labour under Blair and the democrats under Clinton.
