Post jobs that are easy to get employed into, pay just well enough so you can occasionally splurge, and have generous work hours.
>inb4 programming is the only job to fit these 3.

Fuck, I really want to know these two. Except drawing isn't a pastime, it's my lifetime passion.

Taking art commissions of course. Enjoy the delicious flavor of instant noodles and you’ll be well on your way to prosperity while those CompSci runts get their application rejected for the 15th time.

I'm a substitute teacher (USA) and at this point I'm so popular with students for my drawings that I'm not expected to do much. It's pretty easy to get some sketches throughout the day, pay is great, you can choose whether or not to work every day. Barrier to entry is just a college degree and background check

I work in a leasing office. In the middle of the month there's a lot of down time. It gets pretty busy in the begining/end of the month because everyone is trying to pay rent and or vacating or moving in.

Anybody here artists that also do graphic design? What’s your ratio with work between the two. How’s that treating you? I’m thinking about picking up GD to make a more robust portfolio. Thoughts?

Programming - it’s a meta optimization. While you are working you have ample free time and good pay to support your hobby. Then if you try hard you can retire after 10yrs and then just draw for the rest of your life and not worry about money

Nighttime security at some facility. I have 8 hours everyday sitting at the table, with a laptop, drawing whatever I want (well, most of them I'm just gaming). So yeah, I think, it's the best option for an artist.

Does accountacy clerk require diploma? That should be brain dead job, and you have a desk to draw on.

Here here. Ratio depends on the month (Im a freelancer) but on average it's 50/50. I enjoy doing illustration and design equally, if you do too then definitely pick a degree in GD.

>> No.4198040

what if someone wants to be a freelancer, programming still a good option?

Stuff with lots of downtime. Security jobs, graveyard shifts, receptionist. I did the latter for a time, pretty comfy.
Hard mode: firefighter, a friend of mine does that for a living and he spends half of his time jacking off in the station.

>isn't every freelancer jobs like this?
Not every freelance industry operates on a global, race-to-the-bottom scale. And even ones that do, ay different businesses are willing to hire and pay more for more local talent, or for better quality service.

Illustration is often not quite a race-to-the-bottom service. There are plenty of budget options for people wanting to hire global illustrators on the cheap (Upwork, Fiverr, etc.), but there is still a lot of good, high paying work out there. Illustration is a pretty saturated field, but if someone is not getting enough freelance illustration work, I assure you it's not because East Asian & Indian illustrators are taking all the job.
