Not quite beg but far from Pro? please use this thread to post daily studies, pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Previous thread: >>4163862

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

READ THE STICKY if you refresh your fundies.

Help others with constructive criticism.

Don't post obviously beg tier stuff and get mad when no one gives a crit. Developing your eyes to critique your own work is far more valuable than someone else's critique.

The proportions look really off with regards to the head vs the shoulders. Your technique of applying colours is good, but the hair blends into the background far too much, making her head look askew and oddly shaped.

If you still have the reference, please post as it'll be easier to figure out exactly what's off.

My point is it's obnoxious and working artists rarely post how long they worked on a piece unless they're just doing it to show off or get kudos.

It's a weird thing in the online sketch culture where people are scared of being critiqued but at the same time as they get better they know they can brag to the less talented ones about how quickly they can sketch up a face.

In the real world no one cares how long it took you to do something. Sketches are sketches, don't people know that their primary purpose is to prepare an artist to do a painting whether in oils or photoshop. People online treat sketches as it's their bread and butter though.

It just looks too detailed for you to handle. Everything has a weird, flimsy texture and looks very inconsistent. In some places you attempt to go all in with realism, in other places you use abstractions, which leads to all kinds of problems. Example: The hair is literally drawn hair-by-hair. In the mouth region on the other hand, you use hatches for shading. The resulting effect is that I would assume she just has a very hairy mouth. There are other just weird looking places in the image, like the parting of the hair looks like somebody tried to cut off her scalp. Also the colors overall look wrong and lazy. Definitely work on the colors, especially the shadows. It's what ties the parts together, and right now it looks like it's patched together from different sources.

some good stuff happening in its head and back legs, but the front legs are very flat and not dynamic.

nice as always, but i do have to admit your drawings are very dark. is it a monitor issue? anyway i love the rendering on his jacket. head seems out of place tho, too much contrast compared to the rest of the figure, especially on his lips.

looks very traced. also never paint individual hair. plus what is happening on the top of her head? is it some kind of a scar?..

very scratchy, work on line confidence and loosening up. its also mostly very flat, too much thinking about the outline of shapes instead of thinking in 3d forms. i command your patience and willingness to draw multiple figures tho, keep it up.

absolute lack of reflected light and core shadow. get rid of pure black and start building that 3d form. also what is that asscrack below his neck?

very stiff. the perspective is not bad though, i really like how you drew the weapons. both feet should be larger, the front one especially.

i really dont understand how someone can uronically devote their life to drawing tits from reference. its not like you even try to implement the boob fetish into some character design. its just endless studies of tits. learn to construct hands for gods sake.

like someone else said, nice color notes. the main problem here is you didnt put enough stress on showing where the light source is. i like it though, has a lot of character. her right eye (so our left) looks very flat and out of place compared to her left one.

is it your own work or a study of someone else's drawing? if its your own then i dig the light/shadow pattern, i can see you've been studying. why does it seem pointless to you? i'd say the drawing is pretty solid. do you draw anything from imagination? if you do studies only it can drain the fun and satisfaction from drawing.

You edit looks great I have to say. But personally I’m a fan of muted colour schemes with accented colour rather than intense colour like this. I definitely need to work more interesting colour into my work in the future but I don’t think this is the way for me though.

Thanks, I think I just tend to start working at a low value and then get sort of acclimated to it and the work ends up looking very dark, definitely an issue for me and you’re not the only one to point it out.

I gave it a little colour adjustment, nothing drastic and it’s not brighter per se, but I think it looks at least a little more vibrant and not so drab, what do you think?

Studying arm's in Hampton figure book. Going to do some torso studies tomorrow

>> No.4193125

these sketches are more dynamic and loose, i feel it in the drawing on the far right especially. they have less character but its because they're just studies. the issue with the drawing i called stiff is that it was a complicated pose/perspective in general and any errors you make will be much more visible in a pose like that. its very very good that you attempted something like that, just keep in mind that it will not look very good at first, but do continue doing complicated stuff. doing things slightly above your current level is one of the best things a student can do to improve faster.

>> No.4193135

some of the hatching/shading is out of place and inconsistent with the rest of the work and the perspective, i can see it on the heads for example. i know you didnt focus on these and just did it quickly but do try to always hatch/shade according to the form. it makes a great difference.

>> No.4193137

It’s so close it reads as black. This would be fine if used sparingly, this kind of value should generally be reserved for intensely dark shadow but here it is used interpreted with a mid tone with no transition or subtlety. the result is more or less the same as having used black.

Their faces say nothing, they're bored. Close their eyes, even partly -- maybe make them stare at each other's face, make it fucking intimate in a way. Where's the top girl's other hand? Why isn't she arching from pleasure? Where's the catgirl other hand? They're dolls, they have no weight or meaning to them; they just sit there

What I "see" that you just wanted to draw dick getting sucked, abs, and tits. I don't think it's bad, others WILL find it attractive/arousing. I just think there should be more to it then random body parts. If they're enjoying themselves they should register each other (and their own enjoyment) in a way, at the very least.

implement your new knowledge to human figure, huston will help you. always stick to the light source direction and start thinking in core shadow/reflected light instead of shadow/light, it will change your art immediately

I don't think "int" as a level really exists. You're either good enough for people to go "hey that guy can draw" or you're not. It's pretty binary. And once you've passed that threshold you don't need to post all your studies on /ic/ and have people give you advice, because you'll just already be doing the original work you want to do.
People want multiple levels because they want to be able to announce that they're making progress, but the painful truth is that being a /beg/ last years, and there's not really much between "beg" and "gud".

>> No.4202016

the only painful thing here is your anus. i have multiple people irl tell me they love my art but thats just because they're non artists and i know i still have a lot of progress to do. just leave this thread alone already

>> No.4202025

This is really not true, the difference is painfully obvious. Beg art is riddled with obvious flaws that seriously take away from the quality of the work and makemit difficult to even take seriously, but it's okay because it's just practice. Int is basically the level where your work isn't dramatically flawed, you have established some basic level of personal stype, but your work is simply not finessed enough to sell or really create high quality pieces of art.

That being said I don't advocate for shitting on beginners from posting here, they're shooting themselves in the foot because they are much more likely to get feedback on their work in /beg/ since their work doesn't stand out like a sore thumb as terrible.

And the benefit of /Int / is that higher level posters can share their art and advice without being overlooked by beginners.

Thanks anon. A nigga wood like a tree in dat bitch.

Nice study btw. I think you should pay extra attention to the rims on her face though. Some of the lights on the inner parts feel a little too hot and make her look a tiny bit 2-dimensional.

Any tips for getting likeness other than grinding portraits and bargue plates? I think I know enough about anatomy/form that its believable but all my measurements are just slightly off.

Your observation is a slightly off and your value range is too narrow. Your thirds of the head are measured accurately enough, all that is left is to get the shapes correct.

I'm just curious but if these are all /beg to you then what do you consider to be /int? I would say some of these are indeed more beg than int but that's definitely not all of them. I think it's rather unfair to judge a lot of the art here anyway, because most of them are either studies, wips or just mere doodles and none of those are usually meant to be artistic masterpieces. Especially in studies where the whole point is to learn to draw things you're bad at.

What is the point coming here from /beg/ if you're only going to post drawings from references? They are far easier and you can look like you know what you are doing, while not being better than /beg/. I can portray stuff as I see it, do badly some basic construction for characters or simple objects, understand the basic idea of pigment on paper, warm cold, bright dark, detail or no detail.

How do I learn the techniques that people from art schools use? I'm in eastern europe so the meme about Russian art schools is true here. They do everything mechanically, from memory, render everything in a very similar way, and very quickly sometimes at expense of looking at the subject.

/beg/ doesn't know anything.

WIP, very much stuck on the shirt's shading. Feels off, and can decide how to fix it. The same problem with the horns. Any critiques are welcome. Also, i'm very new to this board, idk if this belongs here.

Light it from the bottom because that's where the light source is, and shade from the top

Don't be afraid to push your values, especially in the horns. I can see you start out that way (legs, arm0 but when you break get further in with shading, I think you lose the contrast. I would push the colors too and cool down the shadows.

I'm not sure what kind of clothes she's wearing. Is it a one shoulder dress, or one of the straps just fell down her arm? If it's the latter, add more volume to the folds. Figuring out the clothing style will really help when defining the shadows. All those folds you rendered aren't helping much either. I would tone them down, at first at least.

Thank you for the advice! Tried to apply it, will definitely rework this over the next few days, though. I do tend to lose contrast while rendering, something I need to work on. Also, her shirt is off her shoulder, it's not "supposed" to be like that, but it's not reading correctly. I'll try and fix that going forward.

Overall it's not bad. I'm not a huge fan of the face but if that's your style, then keep going with it. Figure out how to make it more appealing. You have all those flowing curves in the legs, but it looks like you're tensing up in the arms and body a bit. Could be just focusing too much on getting the details right. I would try keeping it loose.
