If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.

In all honesty you shouldn't be worrying about materials or photo quality, what you need to focus on is learning the fundies, form and perspective. Even if you want to draw cartoons or in a "distorted " way you need to learn the basics

Short limbs, long neck, weird torso. If you're trying to study, you should be using reference, especially if you're not sure about the forms/proportions of what you're trying to draw.
Check out a figure drawing book like Hampton or Loomis.

Doesn't really change the assessment. I have no objection to tracing and frankly don't care. It just has all the flaws and incongruities of someone who does trace. Those problems tend to pervade through the entire piece, and I'm afraid fixing the eyes can't get rid of that feeling.

Because that's not what I'm implying. Do you think a "sketch" can't be traced?

The drawing has good overall proportions but weak interior form and line work. It's predominantly contour, but seems uninformed by underlying form, something anyone can pick up from the hand.

I don't care how the artist arrived at this, and it's not a call-out. But that's the problem the drawing has. It's not any one part. It won't go away by fixing the eyes.

I assume you're using greyscale because you're uncomfortable with color and want to learn value first, but the thing about value is that it needs contrast. When you use the same similar grey color for the whole image, all the shapes and objects blend together and nothing stands out. If you're going to use greyscale, you should think about it in terms of how you will use the tones to make the different shapes in your composition stand out or blend together in order to make a clear and appealing image

why is her ear moving in and out of the hairstrands without any flow? In fact almost none of these body parts or hair strands have any flow to them. How you can mess up THIS badly is beyond me considering you draw so well. You can't just add/subtract lines out of nowhere between frames my man. Also the bell on her collar just keeps getting bigger and bigger, like what the fuck?

I'm not even joking when I say this is one of the worst things I've seen here before, and I've been to the porn thread. Her eyes even move on her face during the last portion of the cycle. Please at LEAST fix the hair and ears, the style keeps altering and it's so awful to look at.

It's amazing how little substance this had. Not only was the animation thread more constructive, the Discord servers went into depth with what I could fix and what to study.

You keep coping, I keep honing my skills. Starting with adding a few more frames to key areas and making the fixes they suggested. Applying what I learned from others and what you (and a few certain crabs) fail spectacularly to teach.

I'm just confused on how you think removing body parts, enlarging bells and moving the ears in and out of hair strands in a single frame is going to lead to a consistent animation. It looks like you fixed a lot, but the bell in the beginning is still small and her ear near the end of the animation is not fixed, and her hair is.. better but not right.

It's not being a crab you fucking mongoloid, you could show this to any stranger who stared at it for longer than half a minute and they'd see tons of shit wrong. Why come here for critique and then snap when I point out the flaws in your animation? Is it because I said it was shit? Well it is shit, you can be an amazing artist and be a disgusting animator. I like the progress so far, but her thin, long pencil neck is slightly uncomfortable to look at (especially compared to the other three sketches). Second, please adjust the size of the hand on her skirt.

The only other thing is that the foreshortening of her legs in the far right sketch needs to be reworked. If her arms are wrapped below her breasts, her forearms would be partially obscured by her knee (given how long and thick her thighs are in the far left).

With line art that complex you need to stick mostly with simple flat colors/washes, maybe some subtle shadows and highlights. Be careful with your color choice or else it will muddy up the detail and interest of the linework you did.

If I were to color this drawing I'd try emulate how Katsuya Terada colors his linear drawings. Your drawing is actually very similar to alot of what he does.

I feel you should rethink the composition, having the figure dead-center is pretty visually uninteresting unless you really want to make the whole image about that figure in the center. Can I get recommendations on artists who follow a certain particular style? I'll try to describe it:
>1) very hard black shading, no soft transition
>2) lighted areas might be very simple (flat or gradient) or with more texture
>3) overall style feels grim, gothic, dark, oppressive

I think one might be tempted to say most western comic falls under that, because of the hard shadowing, but hopefully the examples I'll post will clarify what I'm looking for.
