Why would you. If someone wants to honestly know how their work compare to some standard you say that they still have a long way to go/lack the understanding of fundamentals/give insight what to improve. If no one asked you then don't bother critiquing.

Carry a Sakimichan Bowsette print with you, if you need to give a crit say
>Is that you? It's a bit generic. You should try to draw like THIS, anon. (show him the print) Now THIS is really good art.
Especially fine artists will appreciate

Since we're here how do I say "Your art looks good, but its clear you know nothing of fundamentals. The only reason it looks god is because you unitnetinaly hide behind a cartoony style and accedently learned how to turd polish. If you really want to improve nuke your style and hit the books." Harsh thing to say, but I a lot of beginning artists who luck into a a decent looking style and stop trying to improve their fundamentals, so they stagnate for years.

if a person tells you this outside of /ic/ memery it's the best compliment you can receive, people don't care if the art is technically amazing, they only care about connecting to it. If they tell you something like this it's a sign that they really like your art.
If a person compliments your skills specifically I consider it a failure, I hate things like "wow it's so detailed!", it means people are looking at the details instead of what you're trying to say.

"What you're trying to say" means what is actually in the picture.
When you watch a movie do you think "these actors are really good at acting" and "these animatronics sure look realistic", or do you feel tense because the characters are scared shitless and running from a t-rex? If the comment a person subconsciously chooses to tell you is a surface level comment, now matter how good that comment is, you have failed to bring them into the picture. That's how I see it.
It's becoming more and more common to get this kind of compliment because most people who actively look at art are artists themselves, but if a non-artist tells you that I consider it failure.

About a random person's art? Not a chance, they're all hyper sensitive.
Been in this Level-Up group on facebook, it's just like the memes. You gotta say something nice before, after and inbetween the actual critique, otherwise they'll flock you for being an asshole.

I hate that shit, I dream of an art community like /ic/ except without the crabbery and blog posting faggots

Years ago I tried to contribute to an art learning reddit, I'm really gentle with criticism even on /ic/ and I still got lynched in threads where a beginner specifically asked for critique.
It's not even the OP that gets mad, it's the other people in the comments.
