Also, didn't see one in the catalogue, but I wanted to share this with you guys.

vs now.

Just thinking back to how much effort it took me to do that one back then, vs how effortless this one was. I literally threw this one together in like 90 mins, doing multiple angles, clean linework, toning, lighting, and with perfect proportions, vs the cobbled mess you see uptop.

So I guess for what it's worth. Keep grinding anons, it takes time, but it does get a lot easier.

I would certainly hope not.

I don't think so though. I've just gotten better at drawing, which means putting pencil to paper and creating picture is relatively easy. That said, once you get to this level, there's like a whole bunch of new stuff to improve in. Like composition, creating a scene, defining your style, etc... there's so much more to art than just nice drawings. Also, my painting is total ass.

>>4077294
Character concept sheets are important no matter what you do. It's also significantly easier than drafting a scene or a page.

If you don't enjoy drawing characters, then you're not gonna get much out of art methinks. Character design is one of the more common and lucrative outlets financially. At least in my experience.

Why would someone consider this "far from good"? Is the peak painting like an old master or something? This could be a real manga or character sheet. I'd buy it if you told me, I dunno, Horikoshi or Kishimoto drew this for their new manga/anime and uploaded it to Twitter. From that point onwards I think it only matters to artists but the general populace and hiring companies would see this as the real deal.

And of course I fucking love it because I'm aiming to draw like this, you anons are kinda shitting on my goalposts.

I'll just vent here. I'm a bit content with my progress but not so much. Yes and no. At the very least I KNOW that I couldn't draw any head nor face for shit when I started a year ago, I still have tons of pages filled with my attempts at drawing a head in my first days. And you can kinda see how I also had trouble drawing even mannequins. I'm satisfied with the human bodies I can do now so that's 1 thing I can safely say I got better at.

But I think I was never that bad to begin with after practicing for the first 2 weeks so it's a bit dissappointing. The things I'm doing now are decent but I know that I could have maybe drawn something close enough back then if I had a digital tablet and spent days on my drawings. Eeeee. Who knows. I look at some of my latest stuff and think "Yes, this could have been someone's commission and they'd be happy" which I couldn't say back then, so I'll take it as a victory. But I never drew mere stickmen so I can't show impressive progress, that drawing cowboy still has enough detail.

Depends on what you're looking for. If it's learning to draw in a certain style, it's really just practicnig the fundies and doing a lot of sketching, and then just taking things from artists that you like by copying their work.

Like, on thing I did for a long time in my sketchbook, is I downloaded both Yoh Yoshinari's and KJG's sketch collections on my phone/tablet, and when I was out or whatever, I'd spend an hour or two just copying drawings in their sketchbooks, practicing difficult angles, and just drawing as fluidly as I could.

Stuff like that really helped me.

>>4080726

>>4081815
I normally ignore people who say "far from good," statements like those usually stem from either jealousy or ignorance. It's a thinly veiled attempt to shit on someone masked as "advice."|

If I were to rank myself, I'd say I'm "good enough to be professional," and I'd say that's a fair observation considering I do draw manga professionally for money already. So it's qualified by my clients, who are willing to pay well into the 1000s for my work, so...

That said, professional tier is quite a broad spectrum, especially in manga, where you've got very simplstic cartoony stuff, or even series with bad art (won't name names), versus absolute gods like Murata, Inoue, Oh! Great, and Boichi. Likewise, drawing skill is just one aspect of manga, visual storytelling is actually the most important element of making manga. Moreso than art.

Btw, the example you posted here >>4081819

He's an absolute monster, I'm still several years from getting to this level. And that's kinda the thing of it, it takes time to get really good at this. A lot of these guys have been working professionally for over a decade, all the while consciously focusing on improving their skills over the years. Whereas, by comparison, I'm still a fledgeling with a barely a year of experience under my belt, and not even doing it full time atm. That said, you've also got anomalies like Murata, where like, you read some of those early Eyeshield 21 chapters, thinking "Oh I'm sure I could measure up to how he was when he started" and you realize that no, dude was god tier right from the start.

That's why you should ultimately focus on your own growth. Look at how you've improved personally, and how things that used to be really tough for you, are now super easy. All the while having a clear goal in mind of wher you wanna get to. For me, my goalposts are mangaka like Murata, Oh Great, Toriyama, and so on...

As far as it stands, I like to think that I'm good enough to be professionally published in Japan by a large publisher, which is my goal. I'll leave that to a Shueisha editor to decide when I go present at the end of this year though. Like I said, art is only one of the 3 pillars.

Btw, these pages are old (from last year), they've just been retouched up in some areas.

I'd say I was destroyed but come on, it's not even close. I was only talking about the top 2 characters, Dr Stone and that Mermaid definitely look sketchy (and I did recognize the bottom character was nothing to sneeze at).
But yes what a freaking jump, I didn't know it was the same author from SunKenRock.
Godspeed to you anon! This is very inspirational, mostly the fact that despite being a pro you don't let it get to your head and still have a learning spirit. I wish to remain like that once I leave /beg/.

You're kidding me, that doesn't look anything like Horikoshi's or Kishimoto's drawing style. The poses are stiff, the hands aren't well drawn, and the bottom middle expression looks like it's from a how to draw anime book. The drawings aren't bad but it's still looks amateurish and clearly derivative from another artist (who copied another artist).

You're improving, anon. You have fine progress if you've really only been drawing for a year. You just have to keep pushing forward.
You're ambitious, which is a very good trait to have, but you often seem to bite off more than you can chew. I'd recommend finding yourself some people who you consider skilled artists who you trust to give you crit for each new piece you put out, and before getting started on your next large piece spend some time studying the weakest areas of your previous piece. I notice in a lot of these you struggle with hands, if you buckle down and study those for a few days you can get some easy gains right there

I disagree. I think your new work looks more polished and fleshed out. but as a fellow style chameleon i'd stress the importance of consistency

From what i've seen on insta, you don't even need to necessarily be a good artist to get a following. just a consistent one. there are some tricks if it's too hard to settle on a style. you could draw the same subject matter. i follow an artist with 17K followers who does watercolor, pixel art, and digital painting, but their page meshes because it's all pokemon fanart

it seems like your trends are bright color, dramatic angles, and energetic poses/expressions

I suppose this is the most relevant thread to ask this question
I'm getting back into the drawing game, and I'm treating it like working out at the gym, doing one exercise a day
For example, I'm doing the hard stuff first and doing 25 hands a day, and when I can draw good hands from imagination (obviously not perfect but enough for me to see it in my head clearly and put it on paper) and after that I'll work on 25 heads/faces a day
How does that sound as a drawing toutine?

That's... not a good idea.

Imagine it this way: you just adopted a puppy. With enough nurturing, love, and care, you expect it to live for 20 years. You want it to grow into a well-rounded member of the family. A friend.
What you're doing right now is the equivalent of learning how to manicure your puppy's claws. Rather than learn the basics, like feeding it, basic commands, washing it, etc. you're going for a specialized area. Right now you wanna be a swiss army knife, rather than a scalpel, if that makes sense. Have a basic understanding of ALL of the human form, not just hands.

And ditch the Gravity Falls style, it's like you're asking to be slapped in the face.
