Favourite painting of all time thread.

Was able to see this is person recently, truly mesmerising.
Seeing a Duchamp in highschool art class sparked an interest in painting and opened me up to Picasso, Pollack and others.

Dude, every time I take a shit I see a Duchamp!
It’s amazing!
And when the smell rises to my nostrils I remember the explosion, hence, Pollock!

These guys inspire my shart every single day!
It’s amazing!

I love all of Duchamp's work outside of his readymades, and The Large Glass is a contender for my favorite artwork ever, but in the interest of variety I'll post Magritte's "The Lovers 1". It's a shockingly beautiful work, made all the more mysterious to me by the fact that most of the rest of Magritte's ouevre tends to be pretty gimmicky.

He copied armours from a museum. But my point was that you're calling him a genius because he rendered a lot of details, just like a photorealist renders wrinkles and hair.

Are you telling me you don't know the difference between someone literally copying a photograph to achieve photorealism vs. what it takes to compose a fantastical large scale battle scene from imagination and bring it to life at this level in oil paint, on this scale? Almost no one can create paintings like this today

Nice goalpost moving there, already forgot about details, now he's a genius because of composition and scale. Now, I agree that that's a much better point than what you originally said, but you're an idiot to think that almost nobody can create paintings like that today. There are plenty of artists who can do a composition like that, but very few are willing to work on such large scale. But that, of course, is just a technical difference.
