i was having a look at the bread where people were comparing their previous works and how they are now and the timelapses were like 2 months or some shit. shit that i can see is pretty much my level but ive been at this shit for two years and always had the same problems. there's no fucking answer too besides grinding at it with no success for another 10 years
fuck this gay earth

Well, if you're willing to literally end your life, you might as well go back to drawing and correcting your mistakes like your life depended on it. Kill yourself through art.

Paint in the outside

Get a stall and offer "free portraits" and other drawings and do scenary as well (make sure is a public place where there are no-fun britbong tier patrols asking you for permit with some people traffic, and a place where they can sit if they want a portrait).

The adults will often ask for portraits and the kids for ponies or pokeeman or wathever.

If you need a reference from a photo ask to pass them trough bluetooth (make sure to have a fully loaded phone/tablet/laptop. Just make sure to hide your porn so you don't accidently tab in some lewd).

Great idea : instead of putting the work, working on your problems (2 years isn't much : "Ars longa, vita brevis" is not a joke) &having a chance to be good, you choose to be bad Forever, be remembered as a bad artist forever.
Is that what you want? NO, AND YOU KNOW IT. YOU WANT TO I M P R O V E YOURSELF

you could save up and take an actual art course with professional feedback if you feel you make no progress on your own

i mean, thats an alternative, but feel free to kill yourself if you dont want to invest into it

How often do you draw? How often do you look at references for what you want to draw? How often do you observe the shapes of things around you with the intent of drawing them? How often do you legitimately practice? Be honest.

anon it's very hard for us to help you with only one example of your work so it'd be great if you posted a few more, along with some examples of what you want your work to look like in the future.
here is some advice that helped me improve quickly.

-draw often (everyday is best Imo) but don't just doodle. GO. SLOW. I cannot stress how much going slow makes a difference in your artwork. consider the form of every line. see how far you can push the detail. start very light with little contrast. this applies to both lineart drawings and drawings with blocked in values.

-relax. literally anything you try to do you'll do better at if you don't care and don't psych yourself out of it.

-do lots of studies of work you like, trying to emulate the details you like. you might not get it right on your first, second, third, fourth try. but the parts of those drawings that you like will begin to bleed into your own art.

-making more finished pieces. drawings are great, but your more rendered and finished works will suffer if you lack the experience to execute them.

-when you think you're completely done a drawing, add more to it. when you think you're completely done a painting, give it another few hours (I usually just go to bed and go back to the painting the next day)

-if you feel like giving up on a piece, don't. at least not always. try to fix it to the best of your ability, even if that means changing what it was originally supposed to be.

ok anon, those are all the tips I have off of my head. Don't give up! it is not a race.

i know it's my fault too, i use drawing as sort of escapism from everything else in my life that already sucks (work, school, etc) so i tend to do mindless stuff and expect it to look good. i read books and draw every single them, but i usually dont draw things by observation because it always turns out like garbage, i used to but i stopped trying.

>>4008849
thank you anon. i'm kinda at the point where i've read like every single book on the fundamentals, loomis, vilppe, hampton, and even got some courses from places like ctrl paint
im stuck at gesture drawing. i do it every single day and render gestures i see from places like quickposes etc but at the end of the day i still have no idea what to do when i go draw. i was long avert from studies because i didn't want to copy so it just made this cycle where i only put out garbage and didnt want to improve. at this point i know its my fault but i'm just too done with life in general to even care anymore
pic related was done a few days ago

this was me trying to emulate a face on a reference. i guess all i want to do is being able to draw stuff in a dynamic manner so i can create my own characters from stuff like simple shapes and adjectives, and i've looked at multiple resources on that, but whenever the time comes to try my hand, it just ends up becoming garbage, but it's my own poor imagination's fault

your progress isnt in a bad place! you clearly try to make an effort to display forms with some success. This piece, like the previous one, feels like you're just going too fast. think more and try to visualize more accurately.

a good visualization tip: if you can simply it's forms, you know the forms well. if you're struggling with that, you might not be as sure as you think about where to place everything and what parts to show, if you get what I mean.

tldr- your work is good, but try to go slower and more carefully. speed's parent is accuracy.

also, excessive size jitter can result in ugly lines if you're not careful. I recommend turning size jitter down/off for lineart and just using opacity jitter. not a rule or anything but try that and see if you like the lines.

I recommend drawing more from life and reference. I can't overstate how much this boosts your skills. All the best artists I know, every single one, copies the fuck out of everything they like. Copying is bad when it's used as a crutch, when you get a commission and you choose to, unbeknownst to your client, heavily reference someone else's work because you lack the skills to do your job.
That's different from copying to learn, though.

I feel you man. Seems like I've read every gesture tutorial back to front and I still don't get it; practicing makes the forms come out wrong and I have no idea what to do.

What's the best way to go about copying from life/reference? I can never get the shape or form right depending on approach. It either looks too flat or disjointed.

there's so many approaches you can take. Accuracy is hard. this https://youtu.be/OxWNzQmg5Ac is a good video if you want methods to accurately replicate a photo, especially a photo of a face.
Exercises can help a lot too. stuff like drawing with the ref upside down, grid drawing and mirroring your drawing/the ref.
Also if you do digital work, have both your space for painting and your ref side by side in your paint program. Try to replicate the ref accurately as you would normally do, then save it and close your program when you're done. Leave it for a few hours or a day or two, then open a new layer on top of your previous layer you were using to paint on (don't hide the previous layer though, you wanna keep it visible) and paint some more and try to refine it and get it more accurate (even if this means reducing a complex but inaccurate area of your painting back to a few simple colors and strokes)
work at this for a while, close and save the project, rinse and repeat. Make sure to open a new layer each time you go back to take a crack at it again. After a while of doing this you'll have a fantastic condensed timeline showing what decisions you made each time, where you're improving, and any repeating mistakes you're making.

But there's lots of ways to draw from reference. Your goal shouldn't *necessairly* be to replicate the image. Sometimes you just wanna reproduce part of it, like the mood, perspective, facial expression, textures, colors, composition, values, ect.
I think it's best to take a minute and examine your ref and think about what you want your drawing/painting to look like before you start.
