I use a papermate gel 0.7, the one with the sleek black rubberized body. It's a really fucking good pen, it has great bleed and works far more reliably and for a longer time than (((pigment liners))). The only downside is that there is no width variation so you can't really work at different scales, but I highly highly recommend this pen. I am not a shill but I would accept papermate money to shill this pen.

God bless anon, been looking for a pen that mimics my CSP pen tool.

>>3999964
Mainly using pental arts pocket brush pen. It's a bit better than their water based version given that the ink doesn't dry up easily after no usage. Relatively cheap, as well as the refills, with cartridges lasting about 2 weeks of normal usage. It holds well on moleskin paper, with bleeding being almost non existent, though I haven't tried it out on anything else.

Other guy who replied to you is a dick but he's right. You're not skilled enough yet that you should even be considering asking for critiques. There's a lot wrong with this and at this point you need to be training yourself to see that.

Continue figure sketching from reference and grinding out basic skills. Good job so far though, certainly not bad for a few weeks in.

Has anyone tried asking someone on the street if you can draw them?

I think about doing it sometimes when i see someone that looks interesting or is under good lighting, but i don't know if that would be weird or not. Drawing people on without they even knowing it is weirder and people do it all the time though.

I usually post on my Instagram, I’ve been walking and painting from Calais and I’m heading towards Siena then Venice from britbong originally then just quit my job and life took my last pay check and been living on the road selling a drawing or two whenever food was running low. When I got to Gengenbach where I’m staying now I met a few people and they gave me a free apartment to live in for a month so I could paint the town before I moved on, been going to the vineyards everyday plein air painting then practicing when I get home for imaginative stuff, it’s been a wild trip so far, my Instagram below is below my dude

https://www.instagram.com/enginart_/?hl=en

Oh it’s a Ryman sketchbook A5, they only sell/deliver them in the UK, amazing paper quality and cheap as chips, I usually paint either with beer or coffee with watercolours so my sketchbook smells like a french café I’d recommend it, this ones from a night ago never painted during the night but it was fun

Usually when I draw in public, I just take a quick glance and start drawing them. In any point where you need to look at your model again, don't make sudden head gestures that'll attract attention. If you feel that the person is looking at you, you can either wait it out or pick someone else to draw. Bringing a drawing buddy also helps, if that lessens the weirdness factor.

Your problems are fixed with mileage (proportional issues etc.) You seem to have decent linework. I'd suggest you draw more individual body parts. Also, rotating these parts inside boxes also helped me a lot (the "krenz exercise")

But yeah, just keep doing what you're doing.

if it's just for practice literally any sort of thick paper will do. Unfortunately, most name brand shit is overpriced as fuck (since it's not just paper its ART paper). Go to the store or something, and make sure the paper isn't super soft or else the ink will bleed. You could probably easily find a decent ring bind book you can use for sketching at your local grocery store for less than five dollars.

That's okay, anon. At first, it feels like all eyes are on you when you're drawing in public, but in reality, most people mind their own buisness. After a couple of drawing sessions, you get to a point where you don't care what others think anymore.

I'm not sure I'm using the sketchbook correctly (what should i be drawing in there?)

your face is fine and does a very good job conveying the creepy psychosis look

nothing about that is wrong; that anon just wants cute girls to jerk off to.

of you have a problem with not making them look lifeless/creepy then you're probably good at creating that look

The most valuable stages of a drawing in terms of how much you learn are the initial ones. From thinking what to draw / starting a drawing, to constructing, finalizing the sketch, (and maybe inking and colouring, depending on what you wanna practise)
After these you're increasingly more likely to be wasting your time, in a practical sense. Adding too many details, fx, fixing unnoticeable things, or whatever. It's fun though but obviously you're better off practising the harder stages more, unless you're super good at those already. This is really what ppl refer to when they say quantity over quality.
You can also look at it this way: the most sure way of fixing a drawing is to keep practising the stuff that matters (fundies) everyday; in a month or so, try drawing it again and you'll probably get it right without having to spend much time fixing anything. Trust the fact that you improve everyday you practise, whether you notice it or not.

Anyway, deciding whether a piece is finished is as part of your artistic process as what colours you used. So it's up to you, if the piece works for what you intended it to then it's probably done

most people seem to get stuck on mannequin bodies once they reach decent anatomy
drawing from life/observation and gesture drawings will probably help with exaggerating shapes and forms to vary your subjects.
rule of thumb for good character design is to have it to where you can tell what character is what by their silhouette alone in a lineup so you really want to be able to push that.

About recently, the ink seems to be more wet than usual. An anon from the brush thread had told me to just rest the pen, with the brush tip pointing upwards, whenever it's not being used. So far, it works, but mostly, I just use testing paper beforehand. If the ink doesn't dry up, usually in about 5 to 6 seconds, I resort to having a napkin absorb some of the ink and just reshaping it to get a fine point.

In getting thin lines, I usually make the tip just barely touch the paper, but also doing it in a somewhat quick stroke, to not let excess ink build up. If the tip ends up being flat, I just reshape it again with the napkin or on some spot with ink already.

Hope that helps anon. Maybe you won't have to buy a new brush pen yet.

Loved these sketches anon. I really wanna get into brush pens and fountain pens but the ink always seems to dry up with me. Is it because I bought some Chinese cheap shit or is there some special care I'm not paying attention to? Also, you have a blog or something?

REALLY nice style. You should use the colors more. Like it!
>>4037399
Did you draw that? If so, that's so good it could sell for a lot of money. Very good!
>>4035659
Top right one is definitely my favorite. Really great depth and perspective. Love it!

Wasn't sure if it was digital or traditional at first. What pencil are you using?

I like the energy and power in your lines, but maybe try to define your contours a bit more, it can be hard to find the shapes in the chaos. Otherwise, love the energy! Whatever you do, never lose your wavy style.
>>4035116
omg, love it! Do you have a blog or something?

Thanks anon. I got a twitter: @art_mellon

>Is it because i bought some chinese cheap shit

Usually this is the case. A lot of the time, cheap brushes and fountain pens with their included ink with either bleed straight through paper or dry up quickly within the pen and/ or on the bristles, after a short time of not using it. I usually look up reviews and try to find showcase videos, before buying new stuff

>Is there some special care I'm not paying attention to?

Probably not, most art brand brushes and fountain pens, like from Pilot, Sakura, and Pentel (currently using their pocket brush pen), are pretty sturdy and reliable, especially when the bristles of a brush are synthetic or the fountain pen's feed system isn't subject to clogging.

What kind of pen is that? The way how it fades midway through strokes makes the drawings look very appealing.

Usually around 2 minutes. A lot of my time is done on making a decent looking face for the figures. If I can't get the figure to come out how I want it, I delete it, do something new, and retry later again.
