Be me
>Hobbyist
>Only goal is to improve for myself
>already have career as graphic designer
>Old job (18/h mon-fri) worked 8-4 no lengthy commute, left me with 4-6 hours a day to draw, pretty nice
>New job (25/h mon-fri) has 2 hour commute 3 buses and such
>Now have to wake up at 6 and get home by 7 (6:30 if I'm lucky)
>When i get home I still need to eat, gym and shower
>If I go to bed at 10ish I only get about an hour and a half to draw, which isn't enough to fill my craving

>What do? How do I maximize my drawing hours? I've thought about going to bed at 7:30 so I can wake up at 3:00am and draw for 3 hours uninterrupted but idunno?
.
>Can't draw on bus btw, too much movement, >Can't draw at work, too busy and surrounded by coworkers even at lunch
>Can't "really" draw on weekends, I spend that time with my GF

How did you support yourself on 18 hours a week? I get being a designer makes you more, but what job would hire someone for such a low-hour part time position? I'm asking as a recently graduated GD looking for time to practice illustration.

>literally has hours worth of public transport commute where he doesn't have to drive himself and could easily use that time to get really good

Alright this is what you do
You buy a couple of artist's loft sketchbooks, they are good quality and 110 sheets each and cost small 7 bucks and large 12 (buy at Michael's or online, everywhere else jacks up the price)
You make a twitter calling yourself something like trainman or pencil tracks or train ning or sketchbus or sketch home or something cheesy relating to your commute
Draw on your commute daily, do at least one drawing where you draw the inside of the veichle, the station, or relating. use the rest to practice, train, and do what you want
Use the half an hour you have at home to scan the sketches and upload them to social media. Do yourself a favor and get a scanner, it could be cheap just make sure you have one, just good to have.
Upload the drawings that fit the themes of your account or just whatever you want

TLDR Use your public commute to draw, and make a gimmic out of your process to gain some followage.

well you know yourself best, you can probably decide when and where its opportune to draw cause if you really enjoy it you will find time for it and improving will come naturally as you will seek out material and knowledge to absorb so i really dont know what to say as i dont know you, ask yourself before any of the goobers here

Not him, but christ is it hard to pluck the courage to draw on the tube when it's peak time both in and out and you're up to your neck in business men with flashy suits either smelling like perfume or shit depending on how much they could be bothered to groom themselves and you're forced to stand in the middle of the tube because all the good standing positions at the sides are always packed already when the train comes to your stop and don't even think about sitting down because all the women, children and old people fill those positions.

There's so many weirdos doing whatever in public transport that no one would give a damn if you are drawing. Standing up drawing is not so bad either as long as you can secure your belongings to you well and lean on a pole or a wall.

Here buddy have some old pasta maybe it will be useful to you - it served me well for almost a decade, and also pic related from an old thread

Polyphasic sleep schedule

07:30
>Wake up - go to bus stop

08:00
>get on bus - check 4chan to see if people responded to my drawing bait
> bus nap 1.5hrs

10:00
> start work, check 4chan
>avoid work, check 4chan, lunch, write 2 lines of code
>meetings - check 4chan, wish I was drawing, consider quitting

18:00
>get on bus - check 4chan
>1.5hr nap

20:00
>cook dinner, tend to hygiene
>watch movie, check 4chan
>study pix, plan tonight's draw session

23:00
>Start drawing - self crit last nights work
>practice faces, gestures, materials, and whatever sucked from last night
>pick something to ink and color

27:00
>document tonight's draw session - post on 4chan
>Sleep 3-4hrs

I used to stay up till 29:00, but I heard some anon got epilepsy from sleep deprivation so I dialed it back to 25:00. Otherwise same schedule for 9 yrs

i work the ol' 9-5, I spend around 2 to 4 hours drawing depending on if I'm tired or not after work maybe, then read or play a video game for a couple of hours to rest my mind . My drawing really depends on how well rested I am, my goal is to save up enough to take a year out where I can just draw and lift weights, I don't have any dependents so figured I could do that.

What exactly does a graphic design job entail?

I always thought it was doing art, except on a company schedule. Isn't that also practice?

i work at a promotional company so most of my work is designing logos for customers or tracing over photos in illustrator, turning low rez pics into vectors. It's not the most complicated work but it's really nice getting to do art full time everyday!

Why do you guys obsess over having a twitter following or some sort of followage?
Don't any of you just draw because you like to draw?

>> No.3972363

>>3972328
>you guys
I don't give a shit about following
I never chased trends, made update schedules or worried about the numbers.
I brought it up because not only is this a cool idea, this is the kind of twitter i'd like to follow personally, seeing somebody grow with a theme is interesting and I like transportation. Also while I don't care about numbers I'm aware most anons do, so this is good just in case.

Sometimes I look down on cloutchasing too, but watchagonna do, human beings want to have love and attention for the stuff they work hard for, it's understandable.

Graphic design covers a WIDE field of work. It can be as simple as business cards, and as complex as book design or websites or UI design.

I've worked over the years where I did illustration alongside graphic design, mostly photoshop and illustrator stuff.
