where do you want to be with your art in 3 months? a year? 5 years? seriously consider this when trying to create the fundamentals of your fans and community, if all you create is hollow nsfw fan art or bandwagon hopping thats all your going to get and wonder why everyone around you is a fat weirdo who farts to much or a gets into some kind of sex related drama... I see more traction when I get significant attention on original work. not so much on fanart because i knew what would happen and made something already prefabricated to succeed. but its already and over crowded market. everyone is doing fanart so it is harder to get your foot in the door. there can only be a handfull of extremely popular people and maybe 100 or popular people.. and you are competing with 100,000 other artists who want to do anime or whatever fanart too. unless you hit some kind of underserved populated community with low expectations you may find yourself treading water. personally Ive been trying more to understand my reach and audience which is pretty alternative but has a massive volume with low content. I dont expect to ever reach 6 digit numbers but i think i could pull off something comfy enough, considering art is somewhat of a side thing for as work during the day. sorry for the schizo ramble

Ignoring the drama and whining, I think the reason a lot of people don't get a lot of RTs on their artwork is that they're at the skill level where their art is decent enough for pity likes, but not good enough for someone to actually want to RT their art and show it to other people. I'm at this skill level too.

When I see shitty art that gets a lot of RTs
often it usually means that what the artist doesn't have in "technical" skill they have instead in social skills. They are really social/outgoing on their Twitter accounts and have a lot of friends that are very happy to RT whatever they upload. In the social media game it's more important that you know how to promote yourself more than anything.

Also it helps if the art is some social statement too, especially something LGBT related like "Pikachu is for trans rights" or "Pikachu thunderbolts ebil TERFS". Somewhat pic related.

I'm not saying to trendhop blindly, but do it in a way that also appeals to you. Like Pokemon - draw Pokemon shit. Anime - draw something that's currently airing and something you like. Scenery - draw scenery and apply the last two points to that. The point isn't to trendhop and cash in on the likes, it's to make others know that you exist.
You could also get your artbuddies to retweet, but by then you're already in a community and have some sort of following.
That's if you care about the numbers and followings and such. If you don't then almost none of this applies and you should literally just draw.

I have this kind of frustration but it's directed toward myself. What bugs me is that there seems to be a stigma against saying that normal people are normal, fuck's sake the whole LGBT population is 5%, I would say that 95% of people is what constitutes normal.
