Man, I just really fucking love art.
Like, shit, seeing all these beautiful artworks just makes me want to improve and create works that inspire others the same way. Honestly.
I still got a long way to go but that's ok. I'll get there. There's plenty of time.

Something that most of us never appreciate is how art has a tremendous comforting and relaxing thing to it.
It doesn't matter how many people in life leave you or treat you like shit. Art is always there for you. Never judging. Always welcoming you to join in with open arms.
And even when there's nothing good in your life, you still have that internal drive to create.
And this gives your life meaning.

Through the good times and the bad, I hope you guys all achieve your dreams

>Why are russians so great?

Because unlike the West, art schools in Russia never fully dropped their preference and their methods of teaching realism in favor of modern art. With the Imperial Academy in Russia the same methods Ilya Repin used in the 19th century were preserved through time, something that's very rare in the rest of the world because after WWII and up until the 1970s most art schools and the people going to them were all about about modernism and didn't give a fuck about learning to paint the old fashioned way, so the exact same methods used from before then died out except in the hands of a small amount of artists.

I don't know if this guy was trained traditionally in an academy, but it seems realism is respected a lot more in Russia. Perhaps because they know that it still can be an important tool for nationalist propaganda. They train painters who create work that legitimately looks like it is on the same level as the 19th century realists. This painting was made in the early 2000s.

not them, but that's not enough reason to do art. art is a part of you put on the paper for you and/or others to enjoy, process wise and/or end product. when you're an artist in passion, time is just inconsequential to you.

why shouldn't it be? after all, you could die tomorrow, today, next decade or gain immortality and never wither. would you still do art? i'd find it incredibly hard to believe you wouldn't, i know i would.

>Rockwell used architects' tracing paper to transfer his final charcoal drawing onto a double-primed linen canvas or sometimes a wood panel. His paints were oil, particularly Winsor and Newton, mixed with Grumbacher's Oil Medium No. 2, using turpentine to further thin the colors. His favorite brushes were Rubens' long bristle flat brushes, and he occasionally used sable brushes for details.

>And even when there's nothing good in your life, you still have that internal drive to create.
>And this gives your life meaning.

I really needed to read this. I've been really depressed for several years and have felt empty and worthless, especially because i haven't been creating the way i would if i could feel joy again. I've spent too much time valuing my output and not the drive itself.

Thank you anon. I hope you live a blessed life.

Its an illustration of a scene from a novel, I'm assuming. It was made to be a book cover.

Donato Giancola is also extremely inspiring to me as to how much he's grown as an artist. He went from making generic 90s pulp fantasy art to literally "what if the old masters painted Tolkien and astronauts" in a matter of half a dozen years.

Probably because you read it as production/concept art. I think it is, looks like concept for heavenly sword?

I also think the mountain in the middle has a disturbing amount of detail, looks bashed, which is fine but it's just too detailed compared to the things around it and that fucks up the balance a bit. Also, unnecessary lens flare at the top left.

But yea, you have to judge concept stuff by a different criteria. That piece isnt meant to be a striking image on it's own it's supposed to set the scene/vibe/idea, the painting does that quite well, it got this heavenly figure, looking down at the grit. You could use such a painting to arrange scenes in a game where you, for example start out on some hill top in the sun, clean and fresh vibe and then get more dirty and overcast as you work your way down the hill and into the battle and you'd have yourself a nice rhythm and tone shift that actually says something about how this heavenly character is sullying themselves by their actions, or something.
