talent exists but using these two guys as an example is retarded. volen never drew in his life and stumbled around randomly only doing studies like a retard. he drew about ~5.5hours/day for the first year and then progressively less and less(until recently).

algen drew 12hours/day for a straight year he also had a basic art background since he did it as a hobby as a kid, posted on CA which was the best art community you can find, getting critique from industry pros.

you really can't compare these two, since they come from different environments. if you want to find out if talent exists rather compare the people on CA. there's like ~10 noteworthy sketchbooks of people going from scrubs to getting jobs in the industry.

don't do what he's doing which is: nonstop photo studies, using advanced techniques (matte painting, photobashing, etc.) before he learned fundamentals, drawing over 3D models instead of learning construction.

grind on construction techniques and use reference to correct your mistakes. you should work 60% from imagination and 40% from reference. you have to train your mind to see forms and mold them in your mind. it is very difficult but it keep going. drawing from life helps a lot too.
