I draw realism but I disagree. realism evokes emotional response through associations the viewer gets from the picture. same thing with abstract, but there are less concepts and as a result the associations can be more free, obscure and subtle. I can't find any pictures of my tits but here's a picture of my back from the time I got attempted mugged and elbowed one guy in the mouth and knocked a bunch of his teeth out. Knocked his buddy out with the other elbow too, but that was to the side of the head into a car.

Whole arm ended up getting super infected within 24 hours though. Ended up costing thousands in goddamn medical bills because America is home of the free. They put like 15 inches of gauze inside my elbow and it was like a magic trick when they pulled it out.

Not sure what your request this has to with this thread though. Seems super off topic and rude.

why so many figuratives in an abstract thread?
anyway, this is some of the shit i do. i work mostly with technical repesentations, graphics and shit, sometimes handdrawing, sometimes digital and sometimes i go 3D stretching elastic canvas over the frames, tensioning from the back with different objects and painting it all with metallic laquers.

thanks again! here some more abstracts, always playing with the schematic/technical stuff, mixed with some gestual treatment of the material.

i take elements from geographical, weather or finantial graphics and i use them to (kind of) make graphics of my emotional and thought processes. it may sound pretentious but i'm only playing and having fun with it.

i find really fascinating all kind of mixtures between visual languages, but since i work all day in front of a computer, when i do art i tend to not use digital resources, or only as a sketchboard to try color combinations, forms, etc, that i later carry to paper or canvas.

i know, but i do not care too much for that. i don´t consider it more pretentious than trying to imitate reality, but to each it's own, i guess.
to me, abstraction is more like an adventure for the mind than for the skills in capturing a skin tone or a certain kind of shadow. not to deny the excellence of figurative painting, though. and there are some artists that i think are all the time playing with the limits of that, and it's amazing. check some turner, for example.

or this awesome degas, it's at the museo de bellas artes de buenos aires.
it's clearly an almost abstract composition, full of overlapping geometrical figures and strongly remarked straight lines and angles. with not much care about anatomical correction or shadows.
if you squint your eyes a bit you can clearly see the geometrical composition.

in the end, what mondrian did was nothing more than stripping the excess of simbolism of a apinting like this, taking the minimalist view to an extreme.
as i said, an adventure for the mind

>> No.3607818

Are you saying some abstract art is only conceptual and not meant to be aesthetic in it's expression (form, color etc)?

Your stuff is aesthetic in it's expression and I think that takes skill in terms of a sense of form and color no matter if it is realism or abstract. Unless it's photo copying... that takes no sense of aesthetics, only an eye for detail.

>> No.3607831

>>3607818
>not meant to be aesthetic in it's expression (form, color etc)
wellll.... some abstract art is like that, not all of it, and as you say, tends to fall into conceptual art.
and i tend to like abstract expressionism more than some variations that don't rely so much on the technical skills and habilities.

that said, i enjoy some conceptual art a lot, i think there are amazing visual and intellectual creators doing amazing things, and many times they don't know how to grab a pencil. of course there are lots of crappy conceptual "artists", as much as figurative or abstract ones.

>I know nothing about this
i'm far from being an expert, but i've always been interested in art and art history, and i think art history is fundamental and crucial to understand and appreciate all forms of art.
you can find (or get close to) the real motivations that lay under every work of art, from religious medieval manuscripts to conceptual video installations, from impressionism to petrogliphs in caverns. and in that way you can reaaly see what the artist was doing, the motivations, what the painting mean in that special place and time context.

take for example this work of mondrian. if you don't know nothing of it you can consider it just a bunch of lines, boring and with no skills showing..
but for it's time was a revolution, and it was talking about a revolutionary kind of music. both the visuals and the music were at that time as revolting as punk or industrial rock were later.

Yeah, I'm pretty new to art so I don't have a lot of experience with different forms of communication. I guess that is kind of the thing right? some art is concept, some art is composing forms and color, some art is evoking association and emotion through scenery... Most works probably use many categories. But I can't say I understand that Mondrian at all, and it's probably because I have no frame of reference. I can get the simple squares, but this is too complicated.

probably, that's what i'm talking about.
and is not that you'll love his art once you know his context, but you'll likely understand it, and appreciate all the investigative and intellectual work that lead mondrian to do it.
and also recognize the size of the balls that an artist that was an exceptional figurative painter (check his early work, you'll be surprised) has to show to embark in an extreme abstract adventure, at the time he did it.

sure it has, but even the most contemporary conceptual anti-art hyperintellectual installation has one also.

nah, too busy doing other shit.

i've sold many of my sculptures to some particulars and in a small gallery, but i find them almost works of handycraft and not art, and i got bored of them really quick, so even thinking on doing one more annoys me.

but that's with me, i start to get bored by a thing as soon as i can forsee where it's going.
with abstraction happened kind of the same. after doing a couple of exhibs with this >>3606677 in a gallery and in a local cultural center, i lost interest.

now i´m leaning to do some technical conceptual art (pretentious as fuck).
right now i'm building a machine that slowly drips water collected from the atlantic over a canvas where everyday i write and draw stuff, messages that my sister who lives in europe and i exchange all the time. the water randomly smears and kind of erases some of the messages, so what is left is the remains of a long distance connection. i´ll upload some pics as soon as i get some i like.
