There are zero secrets in western art. Everything is out there in the open, for anyone willing to study and put in years of hard work.

The secrets are in Anime. For this reason, the best western artists can only draw awful imitations of anime, usually mixed with Disney or Cartoon Network style, weird faces, just weird everything. You can't learn Anime through hard work. Hard work is important for Anime, but above hard work there are secrets you need to understand and master or you will never draw true Anime.

And there are people who will do anything to protect those secrets. I have already said too much. Be careful. Don't go digging up things that are better left alone, for your own safety.

I don't care about anime, I was just trying to help you figure out what it is you are struggling so much with, because learning anime isn't any different than learning any other art style. It's mostly simplified, pseudo-realistic anatomy with stylized faces. If you are struggling with the figures and anatomy, that can easily be solved by regular figure drawing exercises and if you are struggling with the stylization and abstraction of the facial features, that can be solved by analyzing and studying the artists whose art style you want to emulate. So once again, where does your confusion and struggle come from?
