How do I avoid becoming like Proko? He clearly has some useful things to teach but that imagination drawing video of his and ending up like that is my biggest nightmare.

How to avoid not being able to draw from imagination?*

Take a wild guess

>> No.3442755

>>3442739
Construction and gesture are approached differently whether you are drawing from observation or imagination. He teaches gestures as simplified contours and draws from outside in. Imaginative gestures should capture the pose first and build construction and contours around it. That's drawing from the inside out. Be able to do both.

Where do I learn to do that then.

There are tons of resources on this board, the sticky (in /beg/), artbook thread, etc etc. Do some research.

What the literal fuck are you talking about? It’s 30 pages filled with useful tips, advice, as well as lists of books, artists, and courses. If you think the sticky is useless you might as well give up on drawing.

>> No.3442833

>>3442810
The sticky is just a compilation of popular art books recommended by professionals, ateliers and art schools around the world. If you can't find any useful information in any of those books, then I'm sorry to say this without any irony, but you are never going to make it. It's your brain that is useless, not the sticky.

Learning and studying the fundamentals is always gonna be the go to answer, but for figuring out the difference between drawing from real life and drawing from imagination, this really helped me to understand it and what I needed to study:

Drawing from imagination uses similar but different parts of your memory compared to drawing from what you see.

I like how faggots here take the meme seriously. He sucks at drawing from imagination because he was trying to do something in less than a minute. Drawing from imagination takes much more time because you have to build everything, think of everything and so on.

Have you seen his dog comic though?
He is not good

>> No.3444180

>>3442739
he's a good artist but he drew from imagination outside of his comfort zone. If you don't want to end up like him, you have to be like him which is to not be afraid to draw outside of your comfort zone and making a shitty drawing, and you also have to draw a lot of different things I guess (which is probably not something proko does).

>> No.3444181

Whatever, he is cute as fuck. I could watch him reciting the phonebook.

>> No.3444190

>>3444180
This too. I don't really get why people make such an issue out of it. If you get stuck and fuck up like he did, it just means you need practice doing what he tried to do. No wonder faggots here don't even touch a pencil in months if they're so worried about fucking up.

>If you get stuck and fuck up like he did
What surprised people was the extent of the fuck up. Little children doing finger paintings can draw a more appealing kangaroo with identifiable features.

He isn't just someone drawing an unfamiliar topic. He's the epitome of posters on /ic/ who insists on using a strict copy of a Loomis face to draw anime and cartoons, adding angles and surfaces that shouldn't be there and guidelines that serve no purpose. He doesn't understand and apply construction, he only has rote memory of a human construct that is inapplicable anywhere else.

Great painter, but an inflexible draftsman.

The real answer to this issue is this:
Read
That's it, read as much as you can and anything that you can. Scenes from the books you read make great mental images. Picture in your mind the scene of Don Quixote attacking the windmills he imagines to be giants. Imagine Ishmael gazing upon the whale, filled with hatred and bloodlust. Draw what you think it might look like. That's it
Just think about scenes from books and draw them. Most of the times characters are in impossible situations and they act and move in odd ways. Capture those movements, sketch out their bodies and gestures.
>But I wanna draw something original !
Okay now combine the scenes from Don Quixote and Moby Dick. Maybe the knight is battling a horde of whales covered in windmill pieces. Or Ishmael on a giants back fighting a whale ridden by Don Quixote. Thats it. That's drawing from imagination
Combining things you know into something new and weird. You wanna draw weird and alien landscapes you have to have a database in your mind. Soak up everything you can because everything is based upon learned knowledge. The new and interesting is created in the familiar
/end rant
