keep harassing them and if they don't reply ever you could always post on social media not to accept their commissions since they don't pay. i had to do that once after not receiving replies after 3 months and as soon as i did they emailed me with payment and asked me to take the post down.

No memes, how do you navigate this? I've never had a commission (not good enough yet lol) but what do you usually do? Get money first? Or send them a really low-res image first as proof of completion or something?

I get a lot of small-time commissions. My process
>Send then a free rough sketch for approval.
>Ask for full payment
>Start sending WIP for revisions.
>Finish it.

There's no need for "proof of completion". If they like your work and you have a lot to show, then you don't need to prove them anything. They're the ones who came asking for it.

Shouldnt it be
>ask for 50% upfront
>present 1-3 rough sketches to choose from
>finish WIP, but keep updating the customer to avoid errors
>send very low quality final image
>get the remaining 50%
>send full quality image (+ the art file with its layers depending on the artist)
?

Also which paypal did you choose? Personal or business?

That sounds less common, most artists have to have a platform with (some) popularity to even get found for commissions, to rip off one guy and then vanish completely seems like a bad way to make money

>> No.3424563

>>3424558
Not him but someone on dA did that so it's not entirely impossible. Years ago, a poor artist's followers already know the artists' family lives in a van and they have some issues going on with lawyers. When the poor artist started commissions, her fans who sympathize with her took orders, but she disappeared after that.

this but limit the number of revisions they're allowed to make; 2-3 edits are adequate.

Otherwise you can go on the https://artists-beware.livejournal.com/ and figure out how to write a blog post.

OP here, the guy used his real name while communicating me. It was a lewd commission where he wanted me to draw his wife, and sent me a massive collection of nsfw images of her. It took 2 seconds of googling to find his facebook page, so I'll give him a little more time to respond and then start coming up with ideas.

You can just use disposable account to get some drawing for free and disappear while artists is going to be recognized by their work which nullifies all the effort that was put in their portfolio used to attract commissioners.

>Implying I'd waste time making multiple accounts

Some people actually work for a living. If I like an artist whose reasonably priced and has a long list of work to show for it; then I'll pay up front.

$100 or more gets half a half. No questions asked. I won't beg for art. There are millions of artists out there. If they're unreasonable, I'll go somewhere else.

Same goes for artists and clients. There's millions of clients.

Stop shitposting and draw. You're on a board that's for improving your art, but you're art career hasn't gone anywhere. This is why you'll never succeed.

Yeah this is standard fare for any freelance assignment. If you're dealing with larger projects ($50+k) some people even split up into thirds or more based on deliverables.
