I sometimes like trying to draw scenes from my dreams, I think paying attention to things like dreams can help. Since it's from your own mind, but it may be something totally strange and interesting. Keeping a dream journal actually probably could help in general.
Then there's idea generation stuff like what Scott Robertson does https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ7aaUVhGUo
He uses a lot of random/procedural techniques to get things started. I think he says in that he prefers it to be kind of unpredictable because, since he doesn't expect it, the result is more interesting and different from what he would do normally.
I've never had a huge problem with being imaginative, but I think a large part of it is interpretation. Like how Scott uses random image generation techniques and then makes something from that, it's kind of like an inkblot test. You start with some big, abstract shapes and textures or whatever, then interpret and explore it by refining it.

You're simply using limited to knowledge to perpetuate your limited knowledge.
Drawing a stick figure over and over from your head won't get you any better at figure drawing.
Even though what you draw is on a higher level than stick figures, the idea is the same. When you draw something incorrectly and it looks bad, then you know your conception of that thing is wrong somehow, often in many ways. That's when you need to get reference and find out how to draw it right. If the only source of your study is your own mind, how can you learn? No progress can be made that way.

It's a part of being a high level artist
Style can be broken down into different levels

>Level 1 - Muh style
This is what alot of people think a style is, drawing something in a particular way knowing that it's not realistic, however at this level it's just avoiding drawing things you have difficulty with. extremely amatuerish and a bad habit to have

>Level 2 - Natural style
This is what you naturally develop after years of drawings, say you find long boney hands more pleasing to draw than chubby ones, your style will include that and it will be done skillfully. This style isn't done fully consciously and an artist at this level can't draw any other style

>Level 3 - Purposefully Stylized
This is only achieved by analysing what you're drawing and purposely making decisions to convey your message in the best way possible with the style. It can't be done naturally
Artists who reach this level are also capable of drawing in multiple styles if they take the time to analyse what makes it click.

Hehe, thank you for the cute smol! In exchange I'll give you a slightly less meme-y response about what I'm working on now. I'm spending more time analyzing what I work on instead of mindlessly throwing shit out into the void. I note what I find hard about imagined drawings and what I learned from studies and try to recall as much as possible later. I also try to spend any idle time visualizing and daydreaming to push the level of detail and creativity I can conjure up in my head. Also spending some time each day working on something I know I won't post, so there's no pressure to avoid things I suck at for that little bit.

These are all recent changes to try and break out of the slump I was in, so hopefully they'll start bearing fruit before long.
