You don't get paid for simply being good. You get paid by convincing people to give you money in return for artwork. Art & design is a business, and it takes a lot of marketing, networking and self promotion to generate revenue from it.

this guy isn't an artist, the game re-uses assets from an artist called "playshapes" who made a bunch of old hentai games but released his shit to the public as he wasnt working on it.

then a ton of people took his art assets and made other flash games with it, including this one, which is why the characters look all hacked up and weird. The game is ok but the art is really bad and I don't know why he's earning so much.

Indeed, playshapes made a lot of Nintendo porn games, but he never bothered finishing any of them, so when he released the assets to Legend of Krystal, it created so many clones, that you in the end you see butchered cut out stuff like the OP's link.

Both of them were and still are successful figurative illustrators before they moved on to the fine art world. Money-making in the art world isn't just limited to "artists" who draw anime tiddies.
