This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun!

Peter Han's dynamic sketching I and II. It's better than doing random shit you don't know, Peter Han gives you something to do every week. Make sure to do them everyday. If you actually do them seriously, you'll be a pretty high level beginner at the end. You can draw animals and plants from life which have construction and form behind them. Also you'll have very fine draftsmanship because you have to really control yourself to be able to use just own. It's worth the money. So do start it.

Hell if you go through this whole program, you'll be proficient in drawing. It's a very good price for the knowledge and skills you gain. Art School is way more expensive than this and the time you waste by learning yourself also has monetary value.

/ic/ has a good Getting Started FAQ on this that isn't even linked at the top but I can't find it atm.

If you can't attend an atelier, then:

1) Get Keys to Drawing. Go through it. If you really want to learn "the fundamentals" to the best of your ability then it's worthwhile to invest into text books on the usual studies - human figure, anatomy, perspective, shading and rendering, construction-based approaches, design and composition.

2) Attend life drawing classes if you aren't already. Look for ones that are longer in duration; the whole 5 minute sketch pose is bullshit. Aim for 1 to 3 hour long poses.

For both #1 and #2, do not stylize. Your objective is to draw what you see in front of you to the best of your ability.

Everything you do from here on out will be a refinement of the fundamentals. So buckle in and ignore the plateaus.

The reason for attending a school is it keeps you honest and engaged, especially with good instructors around, they'll give you shit if they catch you being lazy.

He's right you know. He might've been vauge but you should try to practice gesture and anatomy. I suggest looking at Michael Hampton Figure Drawing Invention as it gives a guide to gesture. Try draw a gesture with lots of curving lines to start off your figures before you start adding 3d shapes or proportions on top. You're on the right track anon, you just need to study a bit more

You have no idea how the waist or elbows work. the hand is out of perspective. The hair is stiff and not varied; making shit even for anime hair. That who body is fucking terrible and looks like the clothes are apart of her skin. You misplaced the ears. >line stroke for eye brows and lashes. Eyes are flat. How is that thing even standing? Why the fuck would you add so much detail to the end of the coat and shirt if the drawing is so shit. Fuck off you triggered shithead, I've been to the depths of hugbox hell before, and my God, if you can't even take the normiest of hugboxing anymore, it's clear you're either falseflaging yourself based on your past experiences, or you've never seen true hugboxing like I have. Trust me nigger, this ain't nothing. Hell, I can care less if any of these fags were actually "skilled", hugboxing in any regard is cancer, but this shit in this thread is blatantly shit tier and blogposters are just as they seem, shitposters.

Good artists getting hugbox'd is bad, shit artists getting hugbox'd is irrelevant. A good artist should git gud more than their current level and if they don't fall for the blog meme, they'll be unaffected, while the shit artists can lap it up all they want, they'll just stay shit until they grow some balls and learn to git gud themselves.

TLDR; Who cares. Let plebeians hugbox the shit artists, it doesn't matter and that won't change anytime soon. You should be getting triggered by the good artists falling for the praise meme and end up samefacing/comfortzoning thanks to the hugboxing instead of gitting more gud each time they draw.

Damnit, I think I'm starting to see why people started to leave /ic/. Every time I got caught up in what /ic/ had to say it just ended up wasting my time. The time I had to wait for critiques and redlines that might be dubiously correct could've been just been put into practicing drawing as much as possible. It's not that /ic/ doesn't give valid advice, it's just that a majority of it is vague as fuck, usually appears way later than when you actually need it and only 1 percent of the people actually know how to give constructive critique. Calling people trash and telling them to go back to tumblr, reddit, etc. and memeing Loomis doesn't teach people anything despite what you faggots think. If an artist has everything they make is shit, they might end up changing some elements of their work that were good but nobody mentioned because all of you faggots don't want to be accused of hugboxing. But even when by some miracle some someone actually gives criticism on what the drawfag did good as well as what he did bad, he'll be accused of shitposting because of you ironic asshole blog posters . The few hours I just said "fuck it, I'll just draw for fun and read the artbook pdfs I downloaded for reference" were FAR more productive than any of you d/ic/ks have ever done for anyone.
Really the only thing you really need to know is how to break things down into gesture, shape, and form. Proportions will come with practice and internalizing things by studying the book proportions and figures from real life over and over. All of you losers need to:
>Download the pdf books from the resources thread
>Go to an art fundamentals thread on Reddit or any other place than /ic, Drawabox threads and Proko are a legit start
>Draw and study for at least 3-7 hours every fucking day for 1 year until you git gud.
>don't ever come back to this shithole, you can advertise your art on other threads and boards

Keep studying.
>What faults
The placement and size of the ear and nose, the placement in relation of the rest of the face, that lack of head at his top, how obviously you didn't draw guides of faces before doing it, the badly drawn facial hair, etc.
Too much for a few post to point out and how to fix it, you'll be better off studying some book.

I'm pissed off on photoshop. I need program which is working faster to draw in it. I see krita is a very nice program for sketching, but how it work with larger files? Does it crash often? Is it good enough for inking comic? I'm considering CSP too.

>> No.2823344

it's usually 2480x3508, not too big, but my wooden pc can't handle it on PS. I probably need to buy ssd disk. I'll try trial version CSP, maybe I'll buy it, if work fine.

>> No.2823369

>>2823188
I'm drawing mostly in krita.
It has autosave system, so for every file you're working on it creates second file with .~kra extension, so even if it crashes you can retrieve it easily. For me it has crashed maybe 4 times.
When it comes to speed it all depends on brush that you're using.

buy a ssd now, it changes everything.
my toaster went from booting in 40s to 10s.
just get a very small one, you can get away with 50$, and put your files on an inexpensive HDD.

I do everything on krita, but I used CSP for part of a comics. The two interfaces are fairly different so it takes a while to get used to the other.
It really depends on the use case, if you're not doing comics krita is probably the way to go.

I like to paint so probably krita will be good for it. Dunno how painting works on CSP. For a long time I worked with SAI - mainly for lines, but now for some reason it feel a bit retarded to use.

Anime girls, basically
All the advice I get is "draw boxes" or "read this book that doesn't relate to what you want to do"
I'm probably not wanting to do it because I don't find that fun, but I do find drawing anime girls/people in general fun.

>> No.2823657

>>2823649
You should draw anime girls a lot then. Quickest way to improve at something that you want to do. Once you've drawn a hundred or so anime girls, you'll have a good mind list of what you had a difficult time with. Or if you already know, then you should probably study up on those and then reapply on your anime girls. It's more important to draw anime girls then it is to do stuff that you don't want to do because then that means you don't see why you need to do it. Also got any favorite artists or inspirations?

>> No.2823659

>>2823649
then find few good anime artists on pixiv and study their characters. There is no need to forcing yourself into doing something that you don't like. Just remember that you'll need basic knowledge of human anatomy for it, but I'm sure you'll figure it out.

That makes sense, and I'm glad to hear people saying that (even if its "enforcing my bias" or something) because trying to copy anime girls and draw them how artists did them has been a blast these past few weeks, and I've been enjoying it every night when I do it.
So basically I draw anime girls, and keep drawing them until I can see what I'm doing wrong, and then focus on that?

And yeah, I do have some favorite artists!
I love the way Fatalpulse and ShindoL draw girls in general, I love Sogabe Shuji's work on the Persona 3 manga, I love Sugito Akira's artwork (the guy who did Boku Girl) and I love the way Ishikei makes every look so soft and squishy in his coloring. They're the artists I like the most, but I have more that I enjoy like Watanabe Akio, Henkuma, amino (tn7135) and a few others. The actual reason I wanted to start drawing though was because of Sogabe Shuji, the Persona 3 manga looked really good and I wanted to be able to do something like that.

>> No.2823697

>>2823686
this faggot still here blogging instead of drawing, fuck off

>> No.2823708

>>2823686
Yeah, but only focus on one aspect at a time like hands/legs/hair/etc. or else you'll kill yourself trying to get it all together. A person who's not proficient in drawing has to get every aspect better, but that's sort of impossible to do all at once, so take it slow, one aspect at a time and see how well it applies to your previous works. This way, there's progression and it's a simple step-to-step process of how to improve now.

I've heard of most of these except Henkuma and Sogabe Shuji. I don't read Persona though, I don't even play the games. All of those artists are definitely awesome. It's insane to think about the amount of time they have spent honing their craft. Definitely not something that can be easily gained within a few years.
