I’m thinking of getting a different art program. Krita isn’t as intuitive to me as FireAlpaca, but Medibang and CSP seem fine (though I have neither). The problem is I nearly lost a drawing- the program crashed and the file got corrupted in that the layers were fractured (transparent in parts, like completely gone). Although I managed to salvage it, this is the second time it happened. Is it less the program and more my computer? Would my graphics drive or processor have anything to do with it?

Is there an order in which I should learn to draw, or should it just line up with my immediate goals? Like I wanna mainly render people at the moment, but I think maybe I should start with faces and then try anatomy, but also my lines are shitty. I know I have no idea what I'm talking about, but is this a thing I should be keeping in mind, or will it just get in the way of actual progress?

How well do the skills of paper & pencil drawing carry over to digital drawing and vice versa? Long term, I want to create digital art to share online and use for my own hobbies, but I'm too broke to buy any digital art equipment rn. Is it worth learning with P&P or should I just wait? Should I do P&P for now then switch to digital when I have the money? Should I do both when I get the chance? How much of my drawing time, percentage wise, should I divide between the two types?

If you don't have a clear answer that comes from your gut or soul and pops out immediately then just try something else because art might not be your calling. It's a hunger, if you're hungry you eat, if you have no hunger and try to eat it's a bit of a waste.

Depending on what you prefer, just start with drawing human photos using shapes or line work, would recommend a limited color palette if you're using shapes, lines are more fundamental but if you wanna be more painterly, then start by creating basic silhouettes from shapes and carving out the figure/face as accurately as you can

Share your attempt so we can see *how* you're using the colors. Most likely it's the proportions and distribution/grouping of the colors. Here, it looks to be about 80% of the lightest value, 20% darker values, which are clustered together. This gives it an overall high key look. The very darkest values are reserved for lines and occlusion shadows. Cast shadows are done in the middle value.

could be:
>your pc is old enough to conflict with newer updates of the softwares
>your pc is outdated enough to not have enough power to run perfectly the programs (lack of RAM, or CPU, check your admin center in your pc or whatever is called, the thing that show the usage of softwares/applications in your pc, if your cpu is reaching more than 70% yeah should be time to start closing Chrome or similar shit, or anything open in second place)
>you are using old software version for whatever reason that just happens that is one with problems
>shitty software
>incorrect software configuration that make the pc consumes more resources to run it than it should (you should check youtube videos for correct configuration if that's the case)

Avoid shit and save constantly, if the software gives you corrupted files even after you save the file, then is time to move out to something more secure. Turn on autosaving if the software has that, like in photoshop, or Sai-Sai2 were you have the recovery option. Of course dont forget to save from time to time.

reject porn and embraces erotism.
Your problem is the classic how i get out the comfort zone, and is easy, you need to think on the thing that you like, in this case womes-clothes, so, next you need to kind the closest thing you can find that is IN your comfort zone, but just far enough away to make you a little uncomfortable because you don't handle it that well, and start from that to get away more and more, expand more and more.

Example, if you are already making womens-clothes, non porn, then, what other things could you draw that are still that but requires more emphasis in other things? you already had "clothes", so, you could put extra focus on that, and start to study better ways to draw clothes; bikini, skirts, patterns, laces, transparencies, sandals, hats, wait what i need to draw thick clothes you can be horny also with winter oufits what about boots, coats with neckline, long skirts, socks... congratulations now you're studing fashion design without even realizing it.
What about the pose of the girl? why she should be alone in the space? what about object backgrounds for the horniness; beds, pools, chairs, sofas, some materials like staffs, sticks, a wall, a tree, drawing the actual floor, what about more? congrats now you are making backgrounds.... maybe the girls interacting with... living things, like pets, or plants, pam! now you are making animals and they should be look equally ok with your girls or the drawing will suck you know...
And repeat and repeat always related to the first thing, then from that you put just a little more time, everytime, on studying that, and you will get out the safe zone little by little. You should be like a wild animal always hungry for more so always finding new things to add and improve to your base core, no switch completely to an unknown thing.

yes pretty much. In the catalog you will find like 2-3 threads about digital hardware for drawing that conflict, that's because some faggots are brand-bitching from the beggining of the human race, you should not take care of any them specially the ones that are clearly bitching from particular brands like wacom.
To this day at least the top brands reached a climax point in the curve of tech so all of them have the same tech quality in their present products, you should find similar quality in almost any mid range tier price tablet from 2020 to this date, from Wacom, Huion, Xp-Pen, and the Galaxy tablets with stylus and the Ipad tablets with the stylus. In any other brand you can argue with good validation that those products may have or are of lower quality, but on those listed brands is not the case.
You can draw with good quality with and deco 03 or older, just like with an wacom bamboo that is like 13 years old now, or with a wacom cintiq or a huion kamvas pro.

For reference i use a kamvas pro 16 for like 3 years now, zero marks on the screen, buttons in perfect condition, cables good. And the screens especially are quite good nowadays with all the top brands, why talk about samsung or apple with their screens, they have'd them perfect for over a decade.

Just dont buy the others, i mean the others like Ugee, Veikk, i dont remember the rest. In ic anons bitch of the top brands because you know... since there is no reasons to disccus wich is better, all that is left is bitching, and that's ok honestly.

From what I can tell it's GPU/RAM usage (open browser on ~3 year old computer) and outdated software, though I'll check my configuration. Usually I save often and make backups for each phase, plus autosave is enabled, but in that instance the autosaved files were corrupted- even older versions. The updated software should be much better, but I'll make a point to watch my browser usage because my GPU isn't that good. If more files get corrupted somehow I'll switch to either Krita or CSP.

i dont you about you guys but i've been thinking in some inderect correlations that could affect the "flow" of your drawing experience, like the conguration of the quick access buttons, the shortcuts, if you have an "unpleasing" configuration you may be have some "stops periods" when you are drawing but changing the buttons provoces little pauses that conflict with your speed and thinking. So you could think on that. For example if you dont have all your shortcuts in the range of your fingers and need to extend the hand to reah one.
Also if your brush configuration is making you stop the speed, for example you can have a curve pressure in your stylus configuration that is more high to get easy strong lines, that ocudl stop you from making quick lines to test the space, like people usually try to do with the "ghost lines", but in the sketch part, for some people getting a low flow curve in the brush could incentivate more "mindlessly lines", less think and more organic movement drawing.
I just write that because i know is a simple detail but can be important in some drawing workflows specially when you reach that point when you are constantly thinking if the configurations of everything are optimal to your way of drawing or the way you want to achieve

What is "study something"?
Is what you make in school: you approach some topic to study, usually in text form, then you read that, and start to think about that, later, with new information you start to make relations and remember or apply that information in a practical thing.
So to study an artwork, you first look the shit, and think, what you want to study first? focus on that, and think and make relations, try to copy that, and achieve the same result, but since you are copying with probably no knowledge, you try to "guess" how to achieve that result, for that you use the information that you already have in your brain, then, you think in new ideas and put them in practice, trial and error, until you get the result.
The more core fundamental knowledge you have, the more easy should be to think and formulate methods to achieve the result, the less you know, the more it will take because you will be wandering for longer trying to come up with practical answers

>>7103997
whatever you want, some people are more slow to learn things and need to focus in one thing and one way first to move, others can get multiple ideas at the same time, others are fast but need to focus in a single one. Think on what kind of learner are you.

Any tip on how to draw objects in correct proportion? I somehow get the proportion wrong Every. Single. Time. Whenever I try to draw something.
Like I would draw a gun and when I’m about halfway done I’ll suddenly realize that I drew the barrel comically short or something like that.
Drawing isn’t my main hobby and I draw sparsely. Would simply having more drawing experience automatically solve this problem?

>> No.7107308

>>7107303
Yes drawing experience would solve it, specifically drawing from life or doing studies. Personally I could never understand perspective when I tried to use the construction grids and shit but when I started drawing from life more I just developed more of an instinctive understanding of how perspective works. Same but I find it’s getting a bit easier the more I learn and the more experience I get drawing various poses and angles. Studying perspective and form helps visualize scenes in 3D since you can imagine the layout from above or the side and then change it to whatever angle you want. Another thing would be to try visualizing before you fall asleep because you naturally get more imagery in your mind then.

Also expand your skills (learn different software, if you know more than just Ps but other apps from the Adobe Creative Suit and 3D that could help) and make sure it's not just to meet a job description, but so you can do your own thing on the side, maybe you want to create animations or publish your own digital book or get a small project done, that you can share on social media or your own website, kind of useful if you ever decide to work independently and start your own business, just don't count anything out if you haven't properly researched it.

>> No.7113967

>>7113714
yes but i'm gonna tell you from the start that is all subjective so if you ended more confused that's not my problem.
In traditional works the prices works the same as digital in the matter of offer-demand, so of course you can set high prices if people buy your stuff. The market thing is the same so yes you need to get a name of you and the more people can find you the more you can work on the prices, is all about the person and the artistic proposal, i remember had some teachers that painted back in the day "contemporary" art and sell the things like, in 3.000USD at least, but was very big sizes, i remember that he used to said that was easy money but boring to do so he quit and started teaching, but that was the "standard" way of making contacts enter the status quo market of art, very superficial and all that.
Regular people can set prices similar if they reach a lot of people and their works at least have some kind of appealing and good presentation, and of course if they are correctly target to the ideal public, so you could sell i dont know... 50x50cm works in 500usd, or 1x1m, things like that.
For common people you need to at least, as minimum, set the prices to cover the materials, that's mandatory. The more basic, decent, set of acrylics i can think on my country cost like 10usd, the basic 8 colors 12ml tubes, so you should cover like... 1 meter? i think, if you use one tube completely to cover all the canvas... let say you are making cheap paints with basic paint, you should charge the 10-30usd for the paint, then the canvas, 40x50cm cost like 10usd in my country, the basic canvas for study, then add some protection so the paint will last more, standard varnish shoul cost between 10-30usd, let say you buy a basic bottle of 10sd. So you have a 30x40cm paint that as base is gonna cost 30usd, just for the materials. Then add at least a price for the time spend, the hour minimum salary of your country, and you have it, the minimal price.

>> No.7113978

>>7113967
For example in my country the min salary is, let say 10usd per hour.
So you have 1 acrylic basic paint, 30x40cm + varnish, in which you took 8 hours to make, should cost 110usd as the base, that covers materials and your working time.
You can play around that price and rise a little so you can say that 150usd is ok if you have basic knowledge and your technique is mid tier, like... any common art student kek.
I remember friends that went to art carrers selling simple works of 1x1m in about 170USD, nothing out of the ordinary, like a common not appealing landscape, still life painting.

Is it normal to not finish drawings in one sitting? I'm very beg which probably affects the answer since I don't work on huge illustrations or anything. - Lightly dabbing with alcohol and q-tip
- lightly going over it with a kneaded eraser.
- vinyl eraser
Nothing seems to remove it. Is there something else that might work, and if not, does anyone know if it will affect how the watercolor will act on the paper?

How do I learn how to just sketch randomly? I seem to not have the necessary mindset, I can ever only do studies or finished pieces, but when it comes to sketches I've no idea what to draw and I feel anxious, I usually end up repeating things I remember from my last studies and then just give up when anxiety becomes too much. It halters my progress since finished pieces are weeks spent working on the same thing and I just don't have the chance to experiment and practice enough. I seem to struggle with moving on as well, even with studies it takes a lot of mental effort to move on to the next reference.

It means to feel 3D shapes and space as if they were an extension of your body and you were literally feeling all around them like you would your own body parts. The way you learn to do this is by learning to observe in 3D so you can think in 3D and then become so good at that that you just feel it intuitively without having to try. No tutorials because construction, anatomy, gesture, and perspective are all trying to get you to think in this way so you have to study those and real life. Real life is the most important part as you theoretically have ~16 hours a day you can use to observe 3D space and structure around you. Try to identify the three dimensions (height, width, depth) in your surroundings and feel how they extend all around you and keep that awareness in your mind for as long as possible. At first it’s hard and you can only do it for a few minutes at a time but if you keep doing it it’ll become automatic and that’s when you finally make huge art gains.

I feel you anon, I could’ve written this exact post a few years ago. When you feel anxious, what exactly are you afraid of? Making something ugly or boring? Well, if you do, then so what? It’s not like it really means anything drastic like your anxiety is telling you because you can always try again. And even if you mess up a lot it doesn’t mean that you’ll never improve. But if you let yourself be paralyzed by fear you’ll guarantee that you never improve, so you just have to embrace your fear and do the things that scare you. I think doing timed gesture drawings might be a good way to learn to loosen up and overcome your perfectionism and get more ideas for poses and scenes. You can also try doing simple personal pieces with a time limit like 1-3 hours. You’re not allowed to touch it again after the time limit is over so you’re forced to figure out how to get only the most important things done in that time limit. You can also do the same with studies where you focus on one main thing at a time within a time limit. Also, learn to be comfortable with an 80% effort rather than always putting in 100%. 80% is pretty much enough for most things and the remaining 20% doesn’t produce enough of an improvement for the time it requires (it’s not linear). Pieces won’t take you weeks to finish anymore if you can become comfortable with “good enough” and no one looking will be able to tell the difference. Actually, they’ll probably prefer the looser stuff because being too careful can make you lose the energy of your work. You can still put in a 100% effort on just the most important parts of a piece (like faces) but it’s not necessary for the full image. I understand how uncomfortable the idea of doing this is going to sound to you but you just have to do it. The more you draw, the faster you’ll get and vice versa so sometimes you just have to force yourself to go faster and looser if you’re too inhibited.

Also, it’s okay to get your ideas from your studies. Try changing just one thing from what you studied and see how that turns out. It might be easier than trying to be completely original. You can always be more original when you’re faster and more comfortable.

short answer: medium contains oil and drying agent (turps for instance), pure oil takes long to dry and layers after that will have to have same or even more oil to adhere. terps are good for underwashes, but may resolve previous layers.
ultimately, it has to work for you meaning the behavior of the color will be different depending on what you use.

Also check if the brush you are using even utilizes the tilt sensor. Not all brushes do, so check the additional settings under "brush size".

I've only ever seen it called Halftone myself, even if its not the pop-art kind, but if it helps any it's specifically the kind that mimics the artifacts from printing presses like old newspapers and magazines. In MTG cards' case in particular it's actually used to distinguish real cards from fake cards (which they do refer to as Halftone). You could also try Dithering but that's more of a low res bitmap image/pixel deal.
Something like this seems similar and I think there's even a Photoshop plugin or filter that can do it somewhere, or if you're avant garde you can trying finding a real printer for it and scan it back in. Really you're just going to have to experiment with search terms related to that, textures can be horrendous to find and is easily one of the worst parts of design if you don't have stuff already.

Hello self-deprecation-cel. It's good to have balance in life so sometimes do some unearned self-respect-maxxing. With that said. There is only one thing you can do.

People before us learned to draw with zero to no resources to their hands. Which is telling that all you need to do is just

1. See
2. Draw.

You see cool things irl? Draw it. You found some cool reference image? Draw it. Olay around with that image. You are playing a game? Draw the characrer. Drawing will make your brain acquainted to understanding 3d space and your hands co-ordinated with your mind to make good design decisions intrinsically. I'm a novice digital artist, wondering where to begin to become a "good" digital artist. Right now I'm doing studies of others art and master studies.
Pic related is one of my arts.
Currently using a PD-1560 and XP Pen Deco 01 with Photoshop
I'd like to be able to draw like this one day.

Are all concept art students very left in general? I notice that they despise a lot of manly character designs and pin up characters, wich is the kind of stuff that i actually want to create.

Is drawing with a low opacity (digitally) or drawing very lightly with a pencil (physically).

While using Loomis, Bridgeman and light scribbles and chicken scratching in the same drawing and using an eraser to lighten rather than remove mistakes, the ideal way to draw.

Like the phenomenon pereidolia but instead of it just being about seeing faces in everything it is about seeing a good drawing in scribbles of forms with a varying line tones and line thickness

Is this just a pretentious way that I sort of figured out the purpose of sketching.

Yes, the arts in general tend to attract a lot of left leaning people, but i'm also kind of center right so it doesn't really matter. Just focus on the art and don't mix it up with /pol/ , just do what you like and don't even bother if other people have other kind of taste or if they like certain fashinonable things at the moment.

Yes i also just draw lots of scribbles and (kind of wrong) lines first in search of the form. I think of it like sculpture in a way. Like in a way discovering the form in the process.

Bros, I think the entire art sphere is dying, it feels like art is not a thing anymore, some of great artists I followed for years started quitting and moved on to other endeavors, can you feel it?

All entertainment is dying. The culture is dying in general.
With the coming economic crisis, "culture" will be mostly gone, and in its place, exciting, adrenaline pumping vehicular battles for control of escaped breeding stock.
If you're lucky, you might get to play guitar while strapped to a giant war rig.

They're saying you're not going to make it, meaning you're a failure, and will always be a failure, and will die a failure.

What do you guys do with pencil stumps too short to hold and draw with comfortably? Anyone got an idea for like a good simple DIY shaft/extender/holder you could stick these in and use with?

It's not that i care what they like, but its more the fact that people are programmed to trample or sabotage things that are considered outside the norm, especially if my future colleagues are going to have the same ideas. I have nothing against leftists.

Searching lines are a thing. If you are not sure where a line should be, draw several close enough. About mistakes: I prefer to fix them on the same drawing. Using erazer or drawing over. Some instructors advice to redraw if you mess up bad, or can't get idea across from the first time (iterative drawing). This way you can gradually get where you want and also build more mileage.

Yeah that's the proper solution probably, though I was thinking about how one would go about making one for yourself. Maybe like hollowing out a wooden piece with a drill, shaping it into a comfortable handle and adding a screw or two to grab hold of the pencil inside.
