Why You Should Copy Anime:

Naoki Saito: https://youtu.be/8jsZGeaWkhE?si=6HZIvG9Bx3y9qoHs&t=12 [Embed]

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

i guess for me is that i can easily tell if something's off with my work, i mean it's also the reason why i quit art a few years back because im just not satisfied with my work
but im not at the skill level where i can put out a 1:1 copy since textures always fucks me up, i honestly dont know how to simplify a texture while maintaining a familiar image with the original subject

some part of me tells me that i should keep practicing copying but half of me wants to explore another fundamental topic (like figure drawing/gesture is what im eyeing at currently)

>Showing it like its some elongated head model is more then a meme
If you can't realize a simple thing that it's literally a sphere you can search for constructions on internet. As i said before it supposed to show him that what he is trying to do instead of doing it a part like he did before. Also you probably need to study style you are trying to draw.

Thanks.
This one is nice but I'll admit being annoyed about how male centric these books always are. I get the idea that muscles are more developed on the male figure and it's therefore smart to study it but considering I have 0 intention to draw men I just see it as a hindrance. Like at least make it 50/50 for fuck sake, not 70/30.

pretty nice
as a /beg/ i got some questions
>how long have you been drawing?
>looks like you're already familiar with digital, are you using screen/screenless tablets and how long did it take to be comfortable using them? and what exercises did you use before to get used to them?
>when copying, do you start with a sort of construction like picrel leftside then fill out the details or just immediately eyeball it and start with a line/something similar to krenz's method on picrel rightside?

>> No.7051107

>>7051062
I'm drawing since december 2022.

At first I used a cintiq 16 normaly but quickly decided to use it as a screenless tablet because of health issues related to my posture. Even with that I couldnt use it because it was difficult, so I trained a lot on paper first with a fineliner/fountain pen, so I couldnt erase lines. It helped build a lot of confidence in my lines and then I got used to digital without even thinking about it. Also using a brush with a similar behavior to a fineliner (little to no pressure sensitivity) helped me a lot. I think i needed the same kind of tools.
The exercises I did was : gestures/figures with great economies of lines (see Hide channel) ; DAB (stopped after the 250 boxes). It took me a while to change, I would say 3-4 months looking back at my sketchbooks. Pls don't grind DAB like a retard like I did.

When copying this one, I didn't use construction (like loomis or hampton) ONLY because Im training my eyes to see shapes and forget that I'm looking at an anime girl, my goal is mostly to increase my observation and analysis method. I'm mostly using what Chris Legaspi teach (similar to Krenz for seeing shapes, I just don't add guidelines on the right side until I'm really stuck for a while and can't see how to improve it).
Chris legaspi how to see shapes : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYoh60OpzWE&list=PL04ASK6GO_oUCh3BagXs6I3cFnjMAiBf-
I didnt do all of his exercises but it helped me a lot to understand how to observe and analyze.

Hope it helps, sorry if there is typos english isn't my first language.

i was planning to grind some boxes while using a screenless tab (to get comfortable using it) but i'll try something else

>> No.7051123

>>7051118
For me the biggest problem was mostly that I was scribbling a lot on it without purpose and drawing with a fineliner helped with that. So maybe try those boxes, but I would say try, you will maybe have a good surprise? Maybe you could do gestures/figures, or draw something on paper and clean it digitally? This is what I do too. Good luck anon, you can do it !

i've been doing that since last week, i just draw anything that comes into mind but mostly circles, boxes, ovals, etc. i feel no progress skillwise but slowly im getting the grasp on using a screenless tab
>drawing with a fineliner helped with that
i also ordered some of fineliners like a year ago back when i was planning to do DAB (until some anons told me to stay away from it) guess i'll try some of it if i find it bearable.
>Maybe you could do gestures/figures, or draw something on paper and clean it digitally? This is what I do too. Good luck anon, you can do it !
actually, at first i'm planning to do some figure/gesture drawing like picrel to get a feel for drawing bodies since if someone put a gun in my head and forces me to draw a body, i'll fail then after that i'll go with the specific body parts like eyes, nose, etc.

anyway thanks again, anon
at least i got some insights on how i can practice
