As somebody who used to do a lot of deliveries, I love reading about characters' lore. It not only let's me know that the OC I'm about to draw is adored by its creator (why would I want to spend hours or even days making something for someone who doesn't care abt their own shit?) but it also helps me make better, more personalized artwork. A simple setting or personality blurb can take a piece really far vs. "oc standing in the void looking pretty because idk anything abt them." It can also make people who normally wouldn't care abt your OC, much more interested and therefore more likely to draw them.
Cuz admittedly it kinda sucks when I open the thread and see a bunch of uncolored/unfinished refs by people who couldn't even be bothered to draw the full character with no information at all.

My personal recommendation is to provide a short but sweet summary of the character in the post, then link a Pastebin or some offsite link to your character's bio, lore, whatever you got. Open yourself to engagement by offering to answer any questions or feedback on the lore/design, then go from there.

Aleksandr Khan, Emperor of the Protectorate. He's a grizzled, stoic warrior who's lived for hundreds of years. He is the strongest living being on his world, and lives to destroy evil.

Ordinarily he's an incredibly competent grappler and fist-fighter, although he occasionally slides into a berserker state, which causes the areas around his eyes to grow dark and for cracks surrounding his eyes to start bleeding. In this state he adopts more animalistic stances.

She also doesn't look like she belongs in the Silent Hill universe either. There's nothing about here that aligns with the horror elements of the monsters/humans of that universe. I think you need to play up the stage performer/ horror aspects of the OC to convey your intent.

I think I know what the problem is. I made the jump to digital, and suddenly my structure, anatomy, and proportions went to shit. I think it has something to do with zooming in on different areas constantly and needing to find precise lines in the sketch. Make sure you have the proportions of the larger forms done first before zooming in to do the details. Her right (out left) hand is really big. Don't be afraid to make a rough sketch, you can always make more layers and make more precise ones on top.

I used to come here for practice. Hell, this is where I made a shitton of improvement, but it’s safe to say the dramafags/schizos have won. I can’t seem to find anything here that appeals enough for me to draw, and I’m sure a good number of people feel the same way. I remember getting my ass chewed into oblivion a couple years back for spending 20 mins on a drawing, whose quality would make anons cringe. But that motivated me to become better and draw the best I could!

What was my point here? If anons ever want to see an OC thread at its peak, we shouldn’t shy away from good-natured critique when it is so pivotal to our growth! Making this place a „safe-space” would end in nothing but a field of weeds. Moreover, we should always strive to put forth our best work, even when it’s hard or we don’t quite like what other anons are saying (schizos notwithstanding).

Because the real win in this thread are not the (You)s, nor the thanks, or even the returns— the real wins are in the GAINS!

And remember that schizos hate improvement because they want to drag you down to their level! They want you to sick so they can continue their sick delusions of being the best! But as long as we do our best and continue to improve they will always remain the losers!

I think /i/ and /ic/s oc threads fulfill different purposes, since /i/'s is less of a trade thread and more of an art dump thread. However that didn't stop the schizo cabal from shutting it down for the past few weeks(?) just to avoid accountability, since they also seem target their own posters whenever they come to /ic/ to try and fuel some gay board war. But even anons in /i/s OC thread hate the cabal's guts for it so I guess it's no loss to the schizos to go scorched earth with it.

I'm guessing the win condition for everybody being targeted is to simply keep drawing and to avoid in-fighting so much. I actually got most of my inspiration from Samurai Jack, right down to stealing his face. I’m working on giving her a more stylized body to fit the face.

People keep calling her trans-looking, which isn’t really true. She’s supposed to look androgynous in the face because she often performed male roles in her shows, was in the military, and is a big lesbian for women that are larger or more powerful than her. I like the contrast between the pretty ballerina body and the masculine feet and hands. It’s also why I want her elegance as a dancer to be
