Buy it. If you want to learn this, especially doing it traditionally, then spend a few bucks to get it:

- you'll be able to compare colors directly, without the interference of a luminous screen;
- having spend some money, you'll be more inclined to practice;
- you can practice without having a computer on (less distractions).

My process is: try to find an ebook version of the book, or at least a flip-through. Try to make a few studies from the ebook version. If I'm confident the book is worth spending a few hours with, and if I intend to do so, buy the book.

The way how these chinese books paint still life is interesting: they stick to pale colors, shying away from black, dark tones and fully saturated colors. That is what is intriguing me about their paintings.

What i really dont understand is why people RIP art books and then downscale the images to such tiny resolutions though. Seems like i cannot find a single book in good quality from this topic.

You tried downloading the book right? You have to use the "preview" button instead (translate page & cie).

The quality is "good enough" btw. Just do a bunch of copies, say, 40 or 50 (really), trying to get the good colors. It's just for training, you can allow yourself to get loose.

To give you an idea, I'm currently practicing color, I must be at my 16th copy in about a week. Some are small/short (30min), others are bigger/longer (~3h). Also using gouache, but working from a book instead of a screen.
