If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

READ THE STICKY:

Read the sticky

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

5h03m later, I think I have sufficient experience to answer your question. The teeth are by far the hardest part and the most significant difference from the reference. I had significant clearance issues to the point where I needed to carefully repaint them so I could just barely fit in a missing tooth. I would recommend that if you do not start there, at least sketch out the teeth first.

Anyways, for anyone else, please critique. I think I'm pretty much done with this even though I know there's a lot more to do. Just run it through Stable Diffusion or something I guess.

OP here is my typical routine.

Draw shapes on first page. Do an automatic drawing to loosen up. Then draw stuff around my room. I then was trying to really do some Loomis heads since I wanted to do some fantasy art.

What courses or path would you recommend to get decent for D&D 1st edition style art? I suck at construction and anatomy, and have ADHD for deeper stuff.

I have a made a few decent copies of fantasy artworks though.

Anyway, I'll post what I tried today. Main issue is today was that I find it really hard to do circles within circles for the Loomis method head.

Forgot to mention that I've gone through so many books aka Keys To Reading, Drawing From The Right Side Of The Brain, used courses like the Watts Atelier stuff etc from the Batman Mega.

I have to draw in bed because my back is messed up from sitting and applying for jobs earlier this week. I got this little easel setup though on my lap.

Does anyone have any advice for me since I don't mind that I went straight to ink pens, but feel guilty in a weird way. I really hate pencil since it taps into my OCD but I never feel the same way about ink etc.

Should I maybe sketch in a lighter thin red ink pen and then hone in with a dark black ink pen?

Looking for some advice from inkers, and general ideas. Thanks.

I've been trying to figure out gestures for awhile now. No matter how I approach it, I can't get this flowy feel for figures.
I now think you are supposed to draw it with your whole arm, but it's kind of hard to do on small horizontal tablet. I also think you are supposed to draw it big, but it's hard to see proportions this way. Is the way just zooming in and drawing all over the screen?

How do you guys keep yourself motivated to keep doing the basic exercises and not getting distracted? I keep failing at it. I train basic stuff for a few days then get an idea to draw something original (that's way out of my skill level most the time), waste a week or more on it only to realize it sucks and was a waste of valuable time.

This gets asked like every thread desu. Heads are hard to draw, take a lot of practice and alot of fundie knowledge. If you want to learn them you can read Loomis's head drawing book(s) but even then if you don't have good fundies they will probably still turn out bad. You need to understand forms as well as head anatomy. Personally I learned a lot from vilppu's lecture on heads as he explains the forms of the head really well, currently I am reading Loomis' drawing the heads and hands.

you should show less construction lines in the faces, especially females, as it makes them look old

I would also avoid drawing the full contour of the lips, placing lines only on the places where the lip casts a shadow with a hard edge. I am not completely sure what you are going for, but your drawings kind of remind me of those wiki how drawings, which have their place, but are a little bit bland, I mean no offense

I am also kind of pre beg, but since you aren't really receiving advice I will give you my grain of salt. An exercise that helped me draw better eyes was constructing one
Go draw an eye, remember
The inside part is a sphere, draw a sphere first. Then there is a hole in the eye that receives the light, draw that hole.
now, there is skin covering the sphere, draw that skin.
Doing that should get you an understanding of the eye, and thus giving you the knowledge to stop the symbol drawing

NTA but you're not even at pre-/beg/ level yet, again, it's debatable whether or not you're even pre-pre-/beg/.
If you actually continue drawing at all (which, I'll be honest with you, you should think long and hard about) you should genuinely expect to be at it for a decade or so before you start making anything decent, as anyone producing garbage like you are after "a couple months now" is probably incapable of much that actually requires critical thought and observation skills.
I say this for your own good -- maybe pick up hiking or something else less mentally intensive, something that doesn't require the same kind of fine motor skills. You need to step back and think about how much being "able to draw" really means to you.

Pre/beg/ imo. Best tips I can give you at this stage is to really observe what you're seeing in your ref. Draw what you see, not what you think, and pay attention to the light and dark values. Try to just copy a few simple objects and not an entire face or person. For example, pictures of fruits or flowers. You will rapidly increase in skill by just copying references when you're this /beg/.

Also not showing the full pupils and lowering the eyelid so she doesn't look wide eyed.
Lastly the mouth is a bit wide, it goes as far as the tearduct. there about.
Oh and maybe the curve of the neck to the chin like I did, more curvy instead of an abrupt stop under the chin.

How do you guys manage to put out drawings and sketches so fast? I unironically spend like 2 hours on a rough sketch because I tunnelvision into the slightest details. I'm the slowest artist ever. Picrel is the master study I've been working on for like 20 hours and I'm not even in the middle yet. Any tips?

>> No.6566496

>>6566493
your problem is you spend too much time working on a single drawing. You are also wasting time attempting to fix issues that can only be fixed at the start of the drawing.

You need to practice. Limit yourself to 10 min, move on after the time is up, keep doing this. you will eventually notice and target your weaknesses. do this for an hour, after the hour is up, test yourself with a 30 min drawing. ask yourself what you struggle on and how you can attack and improve those issues. repeat repeat repeat. 1 hour of 10 min practice drawings, 1 test drawing for 30 minutes.

>You are also wasting time attempting to fix issues that can only be fixed at the start of the drawing.

Lol that is not anything more than /beg/ anon. That abdomen is pretty fucking far from being photorealistic. But yes it does look jarring.

motivation is a fickle and unreliable thing when it comes to anything, like for lifting or keeping schedule etc.
stop looking for motivation, motivation will come to you when it wants.
stop waiting for some reward sensation, just do the work.

Right now im working through lesson 1 of DAB, Dynamic Sketching 1 video course, slowly going through keys to drawing and drawing on right side of the brain, and doing at least 1 lineart copy every day. At the low level im at right now i dont know what else i should be doing. Construction? Gesture? My line quality and anatomy are not great

Personally not a fan of ‘connect the cylinders’ it can take away from quick flowing gesture lines and the base of the cylinders look like they are added without much forethought. You captured the poses well but you are at a stage where quantity is more important than quality

Should i complete DrawABox entirely or just skip at some point to Dynamic Sketching by Peter Han? I see both start teaching pretty much the same thing, but even if DrawABox is making me improve, it feels unproffesional and cringy

>> No.6569842

>>6569606
first chapter of drawabox up through the 250 boxes seems to be agreed on as being the most useful part for a brand new beginner. take a look at irshad's art if you want to see why people often don't trust it past the basic ass basics, probably best just to switch to dynamic sketching after drawing all the boxes

Already getting skewed. You're instinctively trying to draw the features straighter than they are. The mouth and eyes are basically at a 45° angle in the model. Draw some guide lines at the edges in the image, or just compare their angles by holding your stylus up to the screen.
