very nice and clean linework, anon. there are some perspective issues here. his toes on his left paw shoot out in all kind of different directions. his back left foot seems too close to his front, maybe this is intentional and plausible, but it looks kind of weird. his tail does not look like it's on the same plane as the rest.

I think I need to stop ignoring the fact that I can’t do backgrounds. Is it the same as drawing ... the focus of the drawing ... but not in focus? I guess it would have to be more nature (forests, jungles, rocks) and architecture (buildings, insides of rooms) based? Is that also Loomis?

Knowledge of doing backgrounds is mainly built with a good knowledge of perspective. Once you know perspective, you can get into appeal and composition and the like.
Framed perspective is a good book you can skim through for making backgrounds for photos and understanding the perspective behind it.

You're not doing a bad job. Overlay the pictures in whatever paint program you have and it'll help you see what's wrong. I think it's mostly that you're just off in a bunch of ways that you're not noticing and it's all piled up. Make sure you check your plumb lines, pick points on LM's image and see where they line up vertically/horizontally with other parts of the pic and you'll see that stuff isn't lining up in yours. Like the back of that left leg in yours goes straight up to the spine, but in his it hits the top of the pelvis, etc. It'll probably be easier to start over fresh with a new drawing.

Try starting the drawing with more of a simplified base if you can, don't follow the exact contours until all the big masses are correctly positioned.

I like the pic but make sure you're doing less stylized stuff too. Did you draw it flipped or did you just post it that way?

Less uniformity, sharper shapes, more curve to the lines, it's very stiff looking. Break up some of the parts with smaller clumps of hair and some strands, and vary the lengths a bit. You don't want to go overboard with it, but just indicating some line within the clumps goes a long way to make it look like hair. You just want to get away from these big chunky repetitive shapes, get some life and variety in there.

The rendering is also very soft and blobby when hair is sharper and has more contrast. Define your shadow and highlight shapes better and pump their values a bit. Definitely your highlights anyways.

I've been avoiding drawing feet for months now because I'm a pussy. Speaking of which, I've also avoided drawing genitals and so much other stuff too. There's so much I don't know and so much I want to learn. It feels so overwhelming sometimes.

Search with one word the tag you want in English, click the suggested japanese tag because it translates then copy paste that
Also people on the site tend to comment in japanese or leave cute elephant stickers. Good site

Can someone help me out with photoshop hotkeys? Its very basic but very convenient.
Basically, when I'm working on my office mac, increasing brush diameter is command + option drag cursor left and right. For windows I know you can use the [ and ] buttons but its slow and inefficient. Some youtube video says alt + right click + drag, but I only get the master diameter and brush selection panel when I push those two buttons together.
It might be some sort of setting, but I'm terrible with computers.

hand too big ( bad foreshortening ), gesture is weak ( the leg is awkward ), head too small ( overall bad proportions for the entire body ), the leading foot is in the wrong gesture ( this is a nitpick, you'd have to understand foot anatomy to get this right, don't worry about it too much) , the ax is also badly foreshortened ( too big ) , the torso is also too long ( because you were trying to fit the hand pose in it so you didn't pay attention, this is common with lack of understanding of overlapping structures ) , you can honestly just leave it at that ( but it's your choice ). Sketches can be appealing and yours is, once you line it, the mistakes will show, and you'll feel bad about it ( gotta think about emotional state as a form of creative resource , the more you feel good, the more you can draw, the more drawing time , the more you can learn and draw for pleasure and practice your hands ) . same energy pic related

so i just read these few pages to see if i could help
it appears he leaves the method unspecified. so you could eyeball or get out a ruler and measure
the accuracy of the horizontal lines will determine the vertical ones
but there's also a subtle detail here
you can draw vertical lines and get the horizontal lines, it works either direction
so draw first which is the most comfortable to measure or eyeball
these aren't mathematical proofs, so don't read them like that
they're just good rules of thumb

One thing that would make this a lot better is if you'd check proportions before you do your line art and colors.

For example, look at the length of the bayonet compared to the end of his scope. The reference looks like it's almost 3 times as long, but yours isn't even twice.

Also, look at silhouette of things, like the legs.

Some of your curves are straight, and some of your straights are curves, like the bottom of the helmet.

Lastly, look at the negative space around the object. There's a clear bend from the bottom of the rifle, to his hand, to the bottom of the foot. Yours is a straight line.

The reason this is important is because you're training your observational skills. Don't worry if it feels like tracing or cheating to draw some lines and grids to strengthen your senses. Those training wheels will come off soon.

Learning how to paint in someones style is fine, observing how they do facial expressions is fine, referencing poses is fine, but putting it all together just makes them a lesser version of CSR. Good artists are able to see a pose and draw it at a completely different angle, shexyo never did this when copying CSRs work
Csr called him out because he apparently constantly gets asked about shexyo wondering if thats his alt account, then shexyo put out a word document defending himself in a sassy manner. I think shexyo is one of those chinks whos fine with being a copycat for money

LINEWORK:
Should I be using the 'real G-Pen' pen in Clip Studio Paint that fluctuates in width depending on pen pressure or should I use a pen that maintains the same width regardless of pressure and just manually size it up and down as needed? I see some people using the anime swoosh pen look and some people with the same style using a regular uniform line size for the outline and varying line sizes in details and inner lines, all of them having a steady width. This is confusing the fuck out of me.
