What's with the prevalence of these threads the past year? Seems there is a weekly thread now bitching about this style of illustration.

This shit isn't taking away from your coomer commissions, or your digital paintings of space orcs and dragons. Why does /ic/ feel so threatened by it? It has to be jealousy, right? Are you all mad that this style holds more appeal and is more appreciated than your awkward, try-hard digital renderings of dark elves or some siht?

I don't really think the problem's with the style itself (there aren't many ideas that don't work given a good presentation, and there are artists who can make it work), but rather its forced ubiquity
every shareholder/executive is going "hmm yes this is both safe and will resonate with the consumer, shove that shit everywhere"
now the art style is associated with soulless corporations who put on a shitty facade and pretend to be anything other than an entity whose end goal is to get you to buy their products and profit no matter what
if it was just one art style amidst many others, I'm pretty sure no one would be complaining
now who would've thought that centralizing creative decisions in the hands of people utterly uninterested and disqualified from making those decisions was a bad idea?
this video does a pretty good job of talking about the same phenomenon happening with music

If you're gonna disagree with
>any artist shitting on an artist just trying to make an honest living doing art as a dayjob has a severe case of NGMI
It means you're no longer attached to the reality of being an artist and are therefore SEVERELY not gonna make it.

Working artists need the money from bad art to make the GOOD work separate from their commercial art. Food's and rent's expensive; you can't eat exposure. If it keeps an artist fed and clothed, you should be happy another person can be a part of the industry.

Blaming artists for taking those jobs is supreme crab mentality. No successful artist would believe it. It's the mentality of someone with rich parents that would call themselves a "Purist" because he doesn't (NEED TO) dirty himself with the details of life.

He doesn't need to take shit art jobs to live: daddy's bankrolling his art career, paid for his art school, and doesn't mind when Junior can't hack it despite severe grade inflation, drops out, moves back home, and can't get a real job because nobody in 2020 wants shitty uncolored half-baked Loomis heads anymore.

These people, much like you, end up on /ic/. They're jealous of the artists who recognize and accept the compromises it takes to get work (boring styles, boring customers, and restrained creativity) - and it bothers the crab immensely that for one brief moment, the universe wasn't built just to cater to them.

The crab tells itself it's just attacking the style - but they're not. It's rage against
>A society that doesn't see THEM as an artist
>That doesn't care about Loomis realism the crab is obsessed with and LIKES flat art
>The hiring managers that choose what styles are commercial,
>The artists who have outpaced them by paying their dues doing shitty art to get where they are, and
>his inability to get EXACTLY what he wanted, for one brief moment

And all of this comes out in one big anonymous NGMI ligma orgy on /ic/, which is where we meet you - so say hi, crab-chan!

>> No.5014676

For a while I did animation for my university. We made psa's and videos for online classes.
Everything was done in that style, because it's the only style simple enough that you can guarantee every shitty undergrad art student will be able to replicate.
Anything more complicated than that, and it would be a gamble whether or not everyone would be able to match the style.
The whole reason it exists is because it's cheap, it's almost effortless to make, and it's so devoid of personality that it could never be seen as off putting.
