You don't lift for girls Anon. I do Art for myself, like a real Autist. Now that Wagner is dead, only I can achieve a gesamtkunstwerk.

>> No.4959346

For me, after so many years, it's actually becoming a sort of thrill-based reward system. Will this one drawing turn out to be a winner? What risks will I have to take in order to make it interesting?
It's really like any other hobby. You have to enjoy the risk-taking process or you'll be too afraid to grow. This means you'll have to accept the possibility of any single attempt being terrible in terms of the final result. But in the back of your mind lies the prospect that at some point, you'll pop off and make something impressive.
Like a video game!

For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. The fun will come after every slight improvement.
At first you will not see it but after some month you will, you will compare your old drawing with your new ones and be second-hand-shamed yourself to the ground.
It is like lifting, only drawing will take more time since it requires your mental power.

You have to go through the pain after all.
Just keep drawing. And have the good days in mind, since the feeling of finally reaching a final state will never happen, but rather a state of self-encouragement for your art and your improvement, you will start to treat your pencils like your friends, good and be patience wit them.

Took me 1 year of intensive practice. At the beginning the measuring and the dexterity required made drawing exhausting. I am still not good, but the whole process is more second nature and I can focus on how to make things look good instead of focusing so much on hand eye coordination and proportions. Also helps if the end results aren't as embarassing.

You guys are literally caricatures of the retarded tryhard wannabe artists. Hanging out with other artists will show you that your mindset is idiotic. Yes, of course everybody wants to git gud. But you should do so in a way that is manageable and doable on a daily basis. If your experience drawing is similar to walking on broken glass, you are very likely to burn out and give up. It's all about the balance of making it fun and making it challenging.
You're just the opposite side of the "just have fun" coin, which is equally as wrong.

Well, it's a bit unrealistic to think one will be proud of every piece they make. You do have a point regarding not being ashamed of one's work, though.
We are starting to reach semantics-level of arguments here. My final thoughts:
1) Don't just "draw for fun" if you want to be a professional. Challenge yourself.
2) Don't just do intense studies for 15 hours a day unless you sincerely enjoy it and can actually do it on a consistent basis without getting burnt out (rare).
3) The whole point of being a professional artist is to do something you actually enjoy while getting paid, and your journey should also reflect that. So, draw things you can see yourself drawing for hours on end every weekday.
I think these are quite agreeable.

I don't see it as fun. I see it as a means to an end and it's very useful. If I need to learn something to get the job done, I do it. I end up liking skills because they are useful, but not because they're fun.

Having fun while drawing is completely up to you, kids can't draw for shit and have the time of their life drawing, masters are unsatisfied with their work well into their deaths.

If you're not satisfied now it's highly likely you never will be, unless you learn how to appreciate the work you make right now, whenever that now is. There is no ceiling, so learn how to have fun learning, and making mistakes, and not being satisfied, because that's all that awaits you.

Somewhere north of 1,000 hours for me. It’s still not all that fun but it’s a lot more bearable now and I don’t feel like I’m forcing myself every time I sit down to draw. It’s gotten to the point where I have things I want to draw, and I know I can make at least some progress on them, and the desire to see the finished product is enough to naturally motivate me to draw, even though I’m still /beg/ level.

I’m the opposite. I can only be happy and have fun when I’m producing something that looks good, or I’m at least making progress towards something that looks good. I swear this board is filled with angsty teenagers sometimes. Why do you fuckers even draw if you hate it so much?

Challenging yourself is fun. Drawing your best then looking back and finding ways to improve it is fun. Constantly learning and expanding your skill set is fun. If you hate it then find something your enjoy like wallowing in self pity. There's a reason most people on this board suck at drawing.

Why the fuck would you ever get into art if you don't enjoy it? If you want social points go to the gym and work on your appearance, if you want easy money learn to code. Both take way less time and effort to give you results and are way more valuable in modern society.

Also it's not about having "fun", it's about focusing on something and forgetting for a few hours about your miserable life and existential dread, that's what it means to enjoy the process.
