Ok now do this Japanese face but 30 times.

Stress means you’re learning/creating new neural connections. Pursue stress.

Study shading and construction.
Draw eyes in steps and at the same time so they’re the same.

You can see that all your shading should be much darker. Look into drawing texture and accurately replicate the tones exactly.

If you want to treat yourself right draw 1000 faces today and Pursue perfection

I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume this will take far more resources than just producing regular meat or protein rich crops such as what or peas.
It should also be done then with animal cells, not human cells. cannibalistic food sources will inevitably lead to prions disease.
>>4829483
We domesticated wolves, would be interesting to see how foxes fit the bill.
Human intelligence parrots aren't top priority. Top priority is getting smarter cats, or just straight up going into catgirls and catboys. Our current solution for neko overpopulation is castrating them and waiting for their numbers to dwindle. They have wiped out a lot of species and we don't have a real solution for them at the moment.
Some army or intelligence group have already started trying to make smart birds for spying purposes. I'm sure of that.

This is not telling him to work hard. It’s simply a fact that what we often think is stress is actually just our brain in conflict for resources for new data if you’re not tiring yourself out and you’re getting a little better slowly.

thanks for the feedback. i don't think i used any measuring techniques in the portrait aside from maybe finding the midpoint, though i knew a few from keys to drawing- i'm just now digesting how important it is to get objective measurements correct at the start in portraiture. i'm still not confident in utilizing most measuring techniques but i'll keep trying.

So if I don't flip my canvas regularly, my painting/drawing ends up looking either slanted, or off, or something bad. My angles/verticals/horizontals are off even though they look straight. I see a lot of artists constantly flipping their canvas as well, so it seems to be a good way to find mistakes.
My question is, if I keep doing this, will I eventually learn to see these mistakes without flipping/checking as much? Or am I doing something inherently wrong that my drawing is that off?

There's a small number of people who can't imagine stuff at all. There's also a much, much larger number of people who can be trained to imagine stuff, but think they're aphantasiac because no one really needs to visualize stuff in day to day life. You're probably in the second group, and will get better as you copy and study.

Here's the secret: Nobody really imagines things in all detail, unless they're savants like Wiltshire. Every popular artist constructs, references, photobashes, uses models, or just throws things at the canvas until they look kind of right. When they draw something 'from imagination' and it looks great, it's because they're thinking "okay, I've drawn this part before, and it looked kind of like this, and I've drawn that part before, and it's like that..." and not "okay, let me trace the 32k HD image I have in my mind". They draw well because they picked up a lot of little tricks from their time drawing, and they have a painting process that turns basic shapes into something good. As long as you learn the tricks and develop a process, you can get to a decent place.

But who knows, maybe that's wishful training and there are art wizards out there. I'm the spider anon above and barely improved in almost a year after all.

>How do you get basic skills under your belt though when even the basic stuff assumes you can at least work with shapes alright?
By remembering that anything you repeat long enough you become. It is in human nature. It's not some feel good platitude I'm trying to say. I'm literally saying if you do something long enough that thing becomes a part of you. We are so malleable. If you continue, success is inevitable, even if it seems like nothing makes sense. Some time days, weeks, months from now some errant practice or some new piece you finish will fill in a gap that acts as a glue to all of these pieces of information that now seem disparate and nonsensical, and the bigger picture will become clear. When it does, that repetition will be what gets you further.

Build experience. Build patterns of behavior. It is inevitable, then.

Here's the secret: drawing from imagination just means remembering a pose you've already done before and being able to recreate it. This is why everyone always says to grind gesture and draw from life. Literally what the fuck do you want people to say? You sound like someone telling you LOOMIS would be trolling and unwanted but that drawing looks like something a 9 year old would put up on a fridge. Reality check anon, you need to either spend time actually studying basics, or be okay with deviantart anime scribbles remaining too stubborn to actually improve.

You don't need Loomis. You need Hampton, Bridgeman, Villpu, fuck, the Drawabox guy. It doesn't matter who you start learning from at this stage because literally ANYONE will help improve this shit in some way or form.

Working through fundamentals right now, doing body, hands, legs, and what not, with flow and opposing theory. This shit's rough. I feel like I'm not making any progress, but I guess that I am. Since I've only been drawing for a month, and I just started this bit a few days ago. But damn, I never thought it would actually be something that takes time to get good at. Everything else I've ever done in my life has always been sort of easy and straight forward to understand and do, but drawing is fucking hard.

What are your guys views on this. I've been studying, doing lessons and drawing stuff for fun for about two weeks straight. Only took one day off of it, but progress feels so slow. I've saved what I've done and can see it. But damn it's a lot harder than I'd thought it would be.

the legs and the left arm look good but ive seen jojo and thats not the style the artist goes for, plus again, its not consistent with the rest of the frame. you could have made the right arm look like the left arm to imply motion and have the left arm be consistent with the rest of the line art

I like this one, but I think there are a couple of issues. The eye and brow looks like a front view but she's in profile. Her mouth is open, but her jaw is straight. Remember, the jaw rotates from the back, right under the ear, like a hinge. So if her mouth is open, the jaw would rotate down and back. The head shape could use some work as well. One other part I changed, was to add the shoulder area and drop her left arm down a bit.

The value studies are going to help you but you need some more work on the other aspects of rendering, edge and shape will cure a lot of the form issues. Make sure you make a conscious decision in your head what form your cursor is touching, either its a soft (gradient) or hard (flat) form. The abs for example should generally be made one value at the beginning for the entire plane with good contour edges, then paint and blend in the value shifts accordingly with a soft brush. I know my post isn’t about values, but I promise if you think to yourself “it’s a value study” and half ass your edges and shapes every time you render something, it will transfer to your work, save yourself some time and make sure it doesn’t become a bad habit. If you tried on the edges and shapes though kudos, you can learn from it, that will take problem solving and also just mileage in general for your eyes.

try drawing the basic shapes over your reference to see how they fit together, and then try to redraw them by looking at your reference (not tracing). Deconstructing your reference like that should make it easier for you to see the shapes and how to replicate them on clean canvas.

after you get good results by just using primitive shapes, you need to study anatomy so you can add detail as you go along over the bases you created.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I need perspective guidelines.
That being said, I've been drawing characters then background.
Is it easier to draw in perspective if I start drawing the background first?
Cause I sure as hell can't figure out where the perspective is if I drop a character in then a background. Or is there a trick you guys use.

No problem, also, "how to render" from scott robertson, and richard schmid's "alla prima everything I know about painting" go much more in detail about this, they are in the artbook thread.
