Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0
https://youtu.be/t_IODIIYAe0

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

I was thinking about creating a discord for the good people here who post studies and give constructive feedback. What do you guys think?

The only difference is that I'd ban retards trolling on sight and after getting like 10 or so people I'd close invitations.

I think it would be better this way because receiving bad crit or crit from people of a low skill level could be really misleading. So at the very least you'll be able to see the work from the guy who crits you. And meh, the intent is also to make friends and have good people pursuing the same goal to help each other and support each other, I know that even if we're bad, with diligent studies every day we can get better, so no matter your skill level, if you're a good person, you'll be welcome.

You're focusing too much on the faces, specifically a front view with zero sense of perspective. In other words, your drawings are flat with no form. Unironically start drawing boxes, spheres, and cylindrical forms to understand how to convey these forms in space. Understand the importance of overlap and foreshortened forms that relate to the vanishing point. Pick up Perspective made easy by ernest norling and start studying, after you understand the concept of drawing in perspective apply basic forms with anatomical knowledge you may learn from figure drawing from the real life model.

The thing about being generic and not wrong, is that it most likely is just brainless advice that the artist already knows.
It doesn't helps.

It's like asking "Why am i not going towards this [Destination]??"

instead of giving you the clear direction.

>> No.4639893

>>4639830
Lineweight can probably convey depth a bit better than just normal lines, but if you look at Mangaka (For example Horikoshi or Isayama) they don't really use line weight, but others (Like Gotouge) uses line weight.
There isn't really a certain trait that an artwork needs to have to "look" Japanese, the only qualifier seems to be "Anime/Manga", but even then styles can vary drastically.
I think the major thing differenciating Comics from Manga is that in Manga the human shape is drastically changed. Face and Body are simplistic, Eyes are larger than normal.
The environment seems to be a bit less important, because if you look at SnK or KNY the environment is sometimes just parallel lines and sometimes it's very detailed.

tl;dr
Just learn Japanese and no westerner will be able to tell you're not Japanese desu

I mean, there are obvious reasons for why some people say that, but a big part is probably also their ego.
I think you should draw more than just one sketch a day right now. Focus on one part like for example nose + eyes and draw that over and over from reference until you get good and get a sense for their form, then move onto nose mouth and then draw the whole face then the face plus hair and ears stuff like that, build up your skills.
Sure you can just dive in but I'm not sure if that's the most productive thing to do.

I think the big part is the shit posting culture this site have.
It's the easiest way to get free (you)s without having to put any thoughts into it.
Although I'm certainly not gonna feed the triggered trolls.
So, no (you)s for them.

I don't really have time to draw more than one a day.
And this is the pacing I found reasonable to keep me going.
Rather than being like some others that grind until they burn out, I will just keep my schedule.

>Focus on one part
That's actually good advice, but this is my thought, I wanted to draw out the faces with different angle first.
Which is inevitably gonna be wrong.
Only then I can see the mistakes I'm making.
That way, I can pay attention on what to take note of when learning.
Although I did wasted too much time grinding this angle out because kind anons been giving out good advice.
But I think I will just move along and finish all the angles first...
Then, I will learn the specific face features.
After that, I can draw another faces with different angles drawing.
To see how much I improved and what I learned.
Also what mistakes to take note of this time.

Here's my thought, don't worry about drawing it wrong.
Just keep drawing and slowly improve.
It's not a race, it's a marathon.

Uh sorry, I'm also a beginner at drawing and my english sucks so I usually just post images instead of explaining or recommending loomis like everyone does.
But in general, just compare your original picture and the edit while trying to observe the differences and what I did, what can you do to make your drawing look better and what mistakes you have made. Then apply whatever you learn plus studying loomis/other books and artists in your next drawing.
Sorry if couldn't be more helpful.

1 The red line shows that the jaw comes out from the front of the ear the rest its the back if the skull and the neck coming outfrom behind the ear.
2 the blue line shows that your ears are being drawn from different positions. The top tip of the ear roughly lies at the brow line.
