It's making gradients with their programs equivalent of the smudge tool and not leaving any texture. Perfect gradients with no texture make your brain think of specific materials but the artist is depicting an entire scene of objects and figures with that textureless gradient look.

Using textures to indicate different materials and letting the viewers brain blend gradients from visible paint strokes is much more effective. Like this image >>4581602

The day I'm able to do somehtthing like Pic related I'd have met my goal of being a true pro. If I use it or not, that's a different thing, as I prefer doing 2d Manga drawings.
But I look at that picture and appreciate the skill. It's not especially attractive BUT it's semi realism and works well inside those universes.

Entirely regardless of subjective or objective quality, did anyone do a matter of fact guide to symbolism in those mobile game/free to play artworks? Because they all follow similar rules. Transparent blue strings and smoke symbolize magic, characters always need to channel their blue magic dust/fog/strings in their hand optional holding your hand in front of your face.
It's like how you can make style guides for medieval art, because they had very clear cut ideas of how things are to look like and what concepts or ideas they represent.

Congratulation, you could notice some similarities, now do something in premier and think for more than 2 seconds on something. I wasn't asking for symbolism as in - "hidden meaning", I was asking for symbolism in the true meaning of the word - cliches or tropes (to put it into stupid people words). Stuff that is shared between all those images and always means the same thing. Mages always form a blue ball of translucent mist - which always means magic. None of those images differ from an internal logic that has been established already, but never properly written down. The viewer immediately recognizes the translucent blue mist as magic, because he's been conditioned to do that. In itself translucent blue mist means nothing.

Characters always stand in certain poses that symbolize their class (warrior, mage, etc).

It's stuff that the viewer just accepts as a given, because he's so used to it, yet nobody has ever made a comprehensive list of easy fantasy illustration tropes - despite them being as formulaic as medieval art.

You cant draw a magician casting without a lightshow, because they will look like a buffoon. To be taken seriously their actions need to have an effect on the real world, but if you draw magic too real, it wont be called magic. So you need to find the inbetween. Light doesnt effect on objects, but it can be observed, so its the thing to go for when wanting to show something is magical. And light colors are just a taste thing. Blue is usually chosen because few living thing have that color, and because we notice it in nature in stuff which we humans can capture using our body, air and water. Magic is supposed to be something most cant grasp, and water and air are the definition of that, are the thing we are most familiar with when talking about objects which cant be hold in our hands. And thats the benchmark, because thats what our subconscious is thinking about, what it can and cant do with our body. Character design is all about communicating the viewer what that character is able to do. Ask yourself what that character should be able to do, how being able to do that will change his body/ posture, and you got your character design. Nobody is going to write a book on stuff our brain does by default in his subconscious, because most of the time we are not aware we are doing it. Thats why its called subconscious.And thats why everybody accepts it as a given, because our subconscious is the one who actually accepts it.

That's all. It's a artistic game of telephone and nobody is trying to reinvent the wheel. And by such a certain language of symbols and forms was created that signal to the viewer what type of character he's lookin at. Its a completely seperate symbol language from earlier fantasy illustration though, that's why it would be interesting to capture some of the inherent derivative symbolism and make a comprehensive list.
