IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make YOURSELF feel proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES - try ~1000px, <1.1mb

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

I asked about a drafting table in the last thread. I don't intend to quite do any literal architectural drafts and think something like pic related should manage, even without the parallel bars.

I'm a lowly /beg/ but what's wrong with this is symbol drawing, I guess you just can't stress this enough in /beg/ threads. I think you have ability to do better but you need some type of reference as in construction in order to make your work more truthful to the original. Don't give up midway drawing something you should've finished the hair even if you struggle with it.
Look for Proko's hair drawing tutorial on yuvutu because you're basically drawing spaghetti instead of hair. But I'm /beg/ what the fuck do I know, just don't waste your potential.

The facial features, the eyes the nose and the mouth, are symbol drawing. Doesn't matter that they are kind of in the right place, you're expressing forms with lines and shapes only, when you should be focusing more on tones and forms. Shape is a good starting point but you don't know how to get past it and it's hindering you. They're nowhere near as accurate as you think they are.

You also symbol-drew the hair, it's all stringy strands from top to bottom rather than patches of tone that show you know what you're doing. Google James gurney ribbon method, you'll thank yourself for it and stop drawing gollum hair on your bitches.

If you want to fight me on this and won't admit you're doing it that's fine, see if I care.

The point on visual measuring especially stands with that overlay, holy shit my man you need to learn sight-size or visual measuring or something to remedy that.

Bro I'm honestly not coming at you, but you need to stop being defensive. It's okay that you're looking at these noses and thinking "I copied it exactly! What did I do wrong??" because we're all /beg/s here, but if you want a list of the things you missed:

a) the transition between the highlight in the middle and the shadows on the side ensure that the nose pops out
b) the shading underneath the ball of the nose (the two small strokes) make it pop further
c) the nostril holes aren't flat circles. they wrap around and underneath.
d) the shading underneath the nostrils makes them pop out, but disappears on the sides, giving them shape

English isn't my first language so I don't know the names for all these parts, sorry.

Graphics settings between different devices can be way off, also the overall display quality of different devices can also be quite different. This can heavily depends on the devices themselve, graphic tablets usually are better than generic monitors. But the age and condition of the device also has an influence on them. You coud try recalibrating your other device, in studios for example they do this regularly monthly to keep every computer's display in sync.

Don't really focus on shading. IF you're doing a foreshortening study then only focus on foreshortening. Especially if it's your 20th day. The legs and arms are no good, you did not capture foreshortening at all. Maybe try with boxes first and then try again with this ref. Limit yourself on time since you're new and just trying to learn a concept.

Two key things to take away from this drawing:
1. Overlapping. The arms and legs, especially the arms. Foreshortening often uses overlapping. You separated the arms from the shoulders. No no.
2: Your foreshortening practice did not succeed. Try again with something simpler.

Is there something i'm doing that causes this, is conte just shit, or did i get a bad batch of pencils?

I memorized the shape of the male and female skull, and also practiced drawing lots of faces from different angles. I full several sheets every day. Sometimes female, sometimes male, sometimes young or old... I'm drawing lots of faces quickly, like less than 5 or 10 seconds each for my practice. I've never read Loomis or any book on drawing faces and it's working for me. The face I posted was drawn without a Loomis type of sketch first, I just drew it

Also I'm reading comics and manga and thinking about how they draw faces. I'm basically dreaming about this stuff by now

you can draw anime without symbol drawing.
pic related is pure form. And it should be noted that there's nothing wrong with symbol drawing as long as you're doing it intentionally and incorporating it seamlessly into the rest of the shape you're drawing.

>> No.4579646

So I'm trying to practice speed drawing. My friend told me to just try putting a time limit on my drawing/sketching since I normally take about 2ish hours on a drawing, ignoring coloring/shading. He says that it's better to just draw 100 times to really get the shapes ingrained vs taking the time on bad drawings. Is that good advice? I've also been neglecting to draw the Loomis skeleton underneath when I do this, but that's because I usually just do chest up vs full body.

Nowhere.
Places that use real names such as Facebook produces a hugbox environment where everyone is afraid to criticise each other in fear of being called an asshole.
Places that use rating systems such as Reddit are glorified popularity contests where people are only concerned about getting internet points, it's probably worse than Facebook because its social structure is on par with that of high school's.
Places that divide discussion into small groups such as Discord creates a cult-like mentality because of its small group size people are close together enough to start forming real human relations.
It's anonymous here, but that only creates an environment where there is zero consequences for shitposting. So it's your choice really.

i don't know what your problem with the torso is, it's perfectly fine.
the head and neck are made of shapes, but they're just not shaded very much, like her leg or his arm. It's a stylistic choice, but you can still feel that there is a form.

>> No.4579707

im not sure what kind of crit you are looking for, anon. its a cute simple style, and looks passable for what it is. if we look at the arms, you are blocking view of the foreshortened sections with simple shapes. most of the torso is hidden behind a soft shaded fabric which gives little definition of the anatomy. her gesture looks a bit stiff too. part of drawing interesting things is tackling difficult views of complex objects. your drawing will only be as complicated as you make it.

I just thought you might be one since these were very low quality.I mean stop what you're doing as in, whatever your process is when you draw right now, it's likely not helping. It's clear to me at least that you want to improve, but if you don't learn the fundamental human body, you won't be able to improve. That's why as boring as it is, read at least some of loomis' books so you learn the skeleton underneath a body, proportions, muscles, etc, look at pictures of a body, etc. You don't need to be able to draw a perfect human body, but at least be able to learn why something is off. For example, if you look back at the werewolf one, abs and pecs are never ever perfect squares

>it may be that most people here aren't at a skill level where they are qualified to critique your work.
It may also be the exact opposite, in that your work could be so basic that it doesn't even qualify for the most rudimentary critique and unless you have a couple of autists screeching "not beg" or "/int/ out" at you that seems more likely.
Just keep calm, read books, watch instructions and draw. That'll probably get you further than feedback from /ic/ anyway.

Doesn't have to be either tho, could just be that people are completely indifferent to your work.
That's certainly one of my top reasons for not giving critique to people that I would feel comfortable giving feedback to.
