Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0
[YouTube] 1000 pages will IMPROVE your ART? (embed)

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

fuck i told myself i wouldn't redline your shit ever again because it seems that you are retarded, but damn your autism is too strong and nobody seems to care.

your face is the worst ofender, your anatomy is not any good either, but the head.. she looks like she has a huge cranium like damn literally a box could have helped you with this shit, so i don't know how did you came to the conclusion that that head was a-ok, loomis and any other ''how to draw'' book has this shit like: 1/2 of the head vertically is where the eyes are placed, not a golden rule but in most cases is close and it doesn't vary by much but yours is out of the charts, another possibilty is that you tried drawing a really puffy? hair but it backfired horribly, in both cases the main problem is obvious, you can't think in 3D specially those sticker eyes which are in a view from below but your head looks like is almost in a front view and that fucking jaw... but you really don't know how to 3D and the reason is because you don't know what the fuck are you drawing, all you have are symbols or barely any concrete idea, theres a big difference between drawing what you know and what you think it looks like, you should have known the the skull was way too large, the nose and eyes are in totally different angles and that neck, you know the traps are attached behind the neck in the bottom of the cranium right, see thats what i mean.
A tip in hair volumes, and take this as you will because i have never studied hair but if the volume is high the hair has less room to be uh.. free so usually bangs are more dense instead of being separed in thinner hanks and the whole shape is more like mushroom becase of the volume, if you only add volume at the top and the sides are thinner it looks like she had extra brains.

tdlr: you either are too lazy to actually put effort into learning your fundies or just retarded.

yikes!

I took the thickness of the hair into account when I was doing the sketch, but I believe that Lack's work, even with the thickness of the hair, the eyes still wouldn't be in the middle of the face and I tried to emulate it in his style.
so I will wait to see your approach tomorrow.

And don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to disagree or to appear hostile, you can be sure I’m analyzing every word in your post and I saved the image.

For you to see that I’m trying to improve on this I’m watching the Watts Atelier course about heads and studying through hitokaku site heads in box, so I'm familiar with the measurements of a realistic portrait (3 equal parts, eyes in the middle), but in that drawing my main objective was to apply the Lack'style he uses in his Jeannes.

I mean this in the nicest, most genuine way possible. How do you measure when you have a deep understanding and expertise of the real human figure? Should you be able to draw a realistic human from imagination from any angle? Only some angles? Do you just have to be able to do perfect copies when drawing from life? like i said is not a golden rule, i should have said eye sockets because if you are not familiar with the eye structure you can take the middle of the eye when a eye is not completely open making it even below the center specially if its already below the center, then again it's not a golden rule but it doesn't vary that much in most cases.

now you need to be carefull when you are copying someone's style since you are not the person itself, so you will have to build a library of his works and analize what are his normal proportions and find a middle ground, because they wont keep always their own proportios 1:1, so you need to find that middle ground as a base.

anyways the face itself has bad proportions like the angles of the eyes/nose and the jaw being a box emphasizing that large head even more, her head plate looks like is pressed agains her forehead making it look like a flat surface, add the hanks partitions? starting too low it gives the impresion that her hairline is way too low, they don't have the form of hanks that start higher making that big head look even bigger, her sides bangs do the same making the problem worse, look at the way he draws hanks of hair they start higher. The one in pink (top) it should be more or less the form of these hanks on that hairstyle, you can feel the form of the hairline where they born and they have a more natural uhh form , the second i did below is what happens when you draw on an already big head hanks of hair way too low and without the form of them starting higher, add making the sides thinner and the top of the head looks larger, this is obvious on how it should be done in MO.

also the nose should be more pointy on its total area if that makes sense, yours look more like a small 3dpd nose pasted on an anime face.

the guy has a lof of heads in that angle and you couldnt check them to make sure yours wasnt bad? seems to me you are just lazy or retarded for not making something as simple a that.

Still life. Seriously. You can gain a lot from drawing simple still life objects in different angles/perspective.
If you draw from images on your computer, it doesn't really help that much because you cannot infer how the original 3D forms look like (because you don't have that skill yet).
When you draw still life, if you move your head around a bit, your brain can start to develop a 3D sense, like how a 3D form projects into your eye from this or that angle.

Tell me /asg/, why is it that you can always - ALWAYS identify a western "anime" artist by the way they draw faces?

It's like they retain too much western/comic influence leading to this distinct "in-between" style that you don't ever see in nip art, even amateur and /beg/ nip art, no matter the style or rendering, ink or color you can almost always tell apart an attempt at anime art drawn by a non-jap vs japanese artist

Subtle things like line sharpness/density, more reduction in features (especially the nose) western artists copying anime seem insistent on portraying the nose more where nips sometimes leave a single line depending on style/perspective. Is it all just the art/style influences picked up subconsciously that get utilized by the brain as reference, hence why there's such a distinct difference?

Just my observation, you can scarcely find examples of western anime art that looks indistinguishable from some nips basic doujin that is clearly manga and not "attempt at manga" if that makes sense. Hell look at that Mark Crilley guy even a professional like him can't make a drawing not look like its an attempt at anime by a westerner vs genuine manga/anime style by some doujinshi or pixiv artist, down to the very linework.

in fact I'd say its in basic simplistic black and white manga style that the differences between the two styles of art are easiest to distinguish, which is why you see few western artists utilizing this style, drawing manga, etc because then they'd probably find they couldn't get it looking like real manga no matter what.

As it was said before, your proportions resemble too closely that of a live model. The torso is much too big for that amawuhead of yours which results in the uncanny. Despite this attempt it is still out of proportion consider redrawing it from scratch while keeping all forms in relation to each other such as the hand is roughly the size from your sternum to the end of the shoulder. But of course this will fall on deaf ears you can go fuck yourself.

im not too sure how i should remedy the skull issue. have the hair sit closer to it? but then i feel i wouldnt portray the volume of the hair as well, especially considering he has what is almost a mullet
he's definitely supposed to be an older character.
in the middle drawing are you trying to illustrate that both the redline and bluelines are wrong?
noted on the eyes, thanks

I like the color palette and there's something cute about this piece already even though a lot of aspects are somewhat wonky.

Nothing wrong with big eyes if that's the style you want to go for, but yours are very wide as well (if I take the full width of the lashes into account) and close together which makes her face look less appealing. There should always be enough room for a third eye between the eyes.
Also, what direction is she looking in? That decides the placement of the irisis so you need to consider it before you draw them.

Similar story with the hips, it's less of a size and more of a placement issue. The upper and lower body look disconnected because they don't line up properly.
You don't have to do construction manually for every figure you draw, but the reason why people are often suggesting it to beginners is that beginners tend to forget to check for proportions and placements mentally.

the blueline is the shape of the skull, it's just retarded, i know anime skulls are by default weird looking but usually in men they are really close to normal proportions specially in older people,if you want to fix the whole head you will most likely need to redo everything, so up to you, but i wiĺl recommend you to fix that skull but not by a redline given to you, you need to be able to see your errors and fix them if you can't you won't progress at all and if thats is impossible then you go back to your fundies or quit unironically.

What about this image? How many of these would have honestly thought we're eastern if you hadn't known the context?

Not bad, some of these could definitely have fooled me deprived of that context especially the bottom two rows, so I guess these are the ones who have copied and purged almost all western comic influences from their internal toolset/reference to get closer to the anime/manga style.

And I will say that entire pic is filled with more variety and style than the awful samey tumblresque "anime" style you usually see so that's nice to see.

I really like this one in particular, new artist found thanks anon.
