Buildings like this are good perspective practice. These will have a lot of colour and saturation changes before they're done.

I just did a little environment composition this morning, might try rendering it out a bit.

I think the reason for the elf looking off is the shape of his head, it looks like his head has a goose egg on top of of it. I also think that his legs should extend out further but you kind of ran out of page space or something. Make sure you thumb nail first to create a clean composition and plan how their interaction with each other will work. It feels like they are standing on two very different planes but we cant see what so it feels uncomfortable. The orc portait looks really nice, what stands out most to me is how his left hand connects to his arm though. Good stuff overall!

I learned so sporadically, I'm not sure it's useful. I started out copying everything from photos to cartoons & comics. I skimmed any How To Draw book that looked interesting, even Chris Hart's stuff.
For faces and expressions specifically, how to draw cartooning & manga books helped me the most. They break down the key details that convey the emotion in a simple way. And like >>4505745 said, drawing from life helps a lot. When I can't get live ref, I use youtube videos and try to draw people's expressions.

lower half doesn't read very well, I think because the value of the bar and the trousers is so similar, you could do with just passing a rubber over the lower face of the bar to lighten it, that would also reduce the amount of detail and make your character stand out from the bg. his right arm is skewed from the elbow, like it's rotating away too much (look at the direction from shoulder to elbow (which doesn't look well planted on the bar, maybe add some shadow?) and then from the elbow to the hand.)
amazing detail everywhere, the lighting looks roughly accurate but then it hits his body like it's made of plastic, I think there's too much contrast between the white highlights and black outlines.
I wish I had this much dedication to one drawing, man. My sketchbooks have absolutely no finished pieces, or anything even close to this much amount of work. Keep drawing and you're gonna git real gud.

Regarding his elbow, his arm isn't resting on the bar, it's hovering in the air, he's just reached out to his cup, and is about to bring it to his face..the reason there is a lack of shadow, is because of the second light source behind the bar, and that his arm isn't actually hovering over the bar much (maybe only a third of his forearm and hand).

When you say his skin looks plastic, do you mean that theres too much contrast in the shading? Or the highlights are too bright on his skin? He's meant to be sweating, as the character suffering from an illness...what do you suggest I should do to improve it?
